batt. light comes on

when i let my 94 atx idle for a few a little while the batt. light comes on . i have checked the alt. output it is puting out 14.4 volts even when the light is on . i also checked the plug in on the alt. and it looks clean. any ideas

The bearings in your alternator may be going out. It will charge sometimes, and not others. Oh yeah, the alternator I had to buy was $170 after the core.

May be the voltage regulator too.

the alt. that is in it was brand new 4 months ago. ind i think it has an internal regulator. and one other thing when the light is on it is puting out 14.4 volts

To be sure check your voltage with accessories on. It should drop at idle but increase as you accelerate the engine.

There is a single wire connector at the altenator that you should check. I don't remember the function or color of the wire off hand, but if it is loose and possibly not making good contact it will put the batt. light on right away even with the altenator putting out a full charge.
