Bank 1?!

On a V configured engine, whether V6 or V8, the cylinders are not directly apposed to each other when you use the crank as the centerline. At the front crank journal, one rod is ahead of the other, so one cylinder is ahead of the other in the block casting.
That forward cylinder is cylinder #1, and that bank of cylinders with cylinder #1, is bank #1.

I just stand looking at the pulley side of the engine. The bank to your left is bank 1, bank to the right is bank 2. Cylinder on bank 1 closest to you is cylinder 1, cylinder on bank 2 closest to you is cylinder 4. So, on the SHO, the numbering is 1-2-3 on bank 1, 4-5-6 on bank 2.
