bad miss!

i have a 92 sho and it has a bad miss....now the plug wire were crappy so i ordered a new set.....but i took a plug wire off of something else and it didnt help at all!.....it still missed and sounded like crap....now the wire was off a a 4 cyl car but it should of helped the miss right?....should of taken it away a little...well....if it isnt the plug wires what else could it be?? now i have had the car 4 about 2 months and maybe drove it 3 times because it needed a new battery.....now i put a new battery in it and now it does this......i really dont know much about these cars so any type of help would be great thanks

I would like to think you changed your plugs too at the same time? Your miss could be in the plugs too if you didn't replace them. Among a list of other things. Have you checked your codes latley? Maybe you have a bad timing belt. What kind of mileage do you have? Any of that stuff will help.

it has 178,000 when i bought it the guy said that he did put new plugs in it....but yet thats wat he said about the wires...well sometime this week ill try the plugs....its going into the garage on friday the 25th....so we will see what he says

That many miles, there could be a lot of little things contributing to it. When you get the plugs out, find some old rags, and soak up all that crap in there.. then use a little brake cleaner or something and spray those out.

If ya wanna keep her.. I'd sugguest maybe an upper gasket set, and some cam seals, front main seal.. things like that with that kinda age. Most of my seals were shot, and mine had 189 on it when I did the rebuild.

If Oil Is In Your Plug Wells ,you Need To Replace The Valve Cover Seals(gaskets) , If 1 Of Your Wires Are Wet From An Oil Leak In The Plug Wells, You Will Have A Nasty Engine Miss, You Need To Replace The Wires Also .and The Plugs To Do This Correctly. Soak Up As Much Oil Out Of The Well With A Paper Towel Before Pulling The Plugs , You Dont Want Dirt Falling In Your Cylinders,

You Can Also Lift Your Hood @ Nite (pitch Black ,no Hood Lite On) And Check For Sparking Where There Shouldnt Be ,like A Burnt Wire Arching Off Of Another Wire, Do Not Put Your Hands Or Body In Harms Way...be Careful!!!

the engine is really clean there is no oil in teh plug holes......only thing that it leaks is power steering fluid and that is getting fix this weekend.....other then that its clean no oil anywhere.....i was told by a tech that it could be a octance thing cuz now it isnt really bad when it gets like 1500 its goes away so idk im just taking it in .....iv only had this car for under 2 months and i love the power and speed i can get out of it....i smoke mustang GT's that think they are all bad ass.....well i will keep posting things if any other little things come up

I dont mean to be an ******* but it would have been a good idea to atleast check the plugs while you were already doing the wires anyways. Especially if he said the wires were new and they weren't.

With most motors throwing on some wires is no prob but with this motor you either have to

A.) take off the entire intake manifold, which doesnt take long to for a veteran SHO owner but its still a bit of task.

B.) spend 45min to an hour snaking all the plug wires through

Plugs are relatively cheap and now you'll just have to go through what you did to install plug wires all over again.

Switch the DIS with a good one. See if it still does it. Grey module on the left of the intake. Make sure all 4 bolts are tight if you do the switch.

now i took it to the mechanic and he said that the engine was shot....now it has a bad miss and burns a little oil.....it also stalls sometimes but not much....idk what to do with this car ....how much is a motor for one of these?

Change the cam sensor. Go back to your mechanic and slap him.

Plugs are relatively cheap and now you'll just have to go through what you did to install plug wires all over again.

Incorrect, I can install plugs in probably 5 minutes, without removing the intake, anyone with basic wrenching skills should be able to as well.


Also, to the OP, try to check codes and see what you get. Start here, then report back with findings.

Also if the mechanic removed the intake for the plug wires, it could also be a possibility that he did not ground the computer to the engine properly. when putting it back together, there should be a wire on the back of the intake by the passenger side manifold bracket. This will cause horrible missing, and I have also seen a no-start condition due to that single wire, and even poor grounding of that wire.

[edit] you might get a pcm code with the KOER code procedure, but KOEO I usually see 211, 214 and 126, (for the three digit obviously) they seem to be the "bad ground codes"

Just so you know these plug wires on the SHO can be easily broken if you are not careful pulling them out, they seperate easily and you may not even see the problem in the wire itself. Has anyone put a scanner on the car?

A code scan is relatively useless unless you have run the KOER and KOEO tests I previously recommended.

A Vac line leak will result in a high Idle and a PSHHHH sound around the leak. Go slap the guy who told you this.

I'm out in MI, but if you post up a location, maybe someone close by can help you out as there are a lot of things being thrown about here. Especially since your mechanic is a dweeb, apologies if he's related to you... What plug wires did you use? Sounded like you pulled them off another car, are you sure they were properly seated? Poorly seated plugwires will cause that problem, as one cylinder (or more) could be arcing. The SHO has a very specific design plug wire.
