I've had this problem before, but I dont know if it has always been to this extent. My car is a US car, so it should not have the DRL module installed. The second owner apparently being an electrical geek [installed the gauges, fishtanks, possibly the previous alarm, but yet he didn't use any wire loom] I'm guessing he installed the DRL module because he thought it was cool.
Sometimes when I turn off my car, the brights will turn on. This is the only time I will ever see the high beam indicator on the dash light up. This had always been pretty random in the past, but latley its been happening every time. If I catch it, its not a big deal and I just turn my headlights on and off, and it turns off. However, it has run down my battery. So today, it happened a couple of times, no big deal. Well I pulled up to a building with lots of glass on the front of it, and I noticed my lights were turning on and off. I'm guessing it was doing it the whole time I was driving there. I noticed it doing this also once in the past week.
So, my question is, if my car isn't supposed to have the DRL module, I should just be able to unplug it, correct? I've read before that you need some kind of resistor to bypass it, but I guess I dont understand why I would need to do this, if it wasn't factory installed in the first place. Also, on the location of the DRL module. I know its on the drivers side of the car by the charcoal can. Is this outside the engine bay, under the bumper cover? or actually in the engine bay?
