well i think my NOS short block has come upon a rod knock 5k miles and there is some kind of knockin i have had 2 other sho motors knock this knock isnt that kind at least yet....

im hopin its a loose cat i hit the cat a few times with my plam and it sounds loose but idk if thats what it is.. the car its self has about 106k

sh** the oil in it still looks new i have changed it 3 times already since the 5k i put on it i use mobile 5000clean and use a motorcraft filter, changed it under 3k so far.. first one was at 500 miles 2nd was at 2500 miles and now this one... every time oil looked as if it was just poured out the bottle.. as you can see im tryin my best to keep this think running for a bit of time and it seems no matter how hard i try somthing just wont work..

well i think its a broken up cat

also found the red vac line that hooks to the back of the plenum off since i hooked it up the car dont really wanna keep a idle, stalls, surges. you name it ,it will do it.....

I think with enough time you'll have this engine figured out. :)

I thought I had a rod knock. Turned out to be the alternator bearing. Hard to tell with the aluminum block I guess.

thanks for tellin me that i did change that alt out not to long ago and it does seem low on power.. the light has even flash a few times.... hmm.. only reason i changed it b4 is because the casing was cracked...

pulled the Y pipe earlier didn't find anything didn't seem loose nothing...


all i got to say is if this motor craps out parts are bout to be up for sale lol... im not installing a 4th motor in this car... s*** im on use head gaskets and bolts as it is..(btw no coolant in oil or anything like that)

alternator is next to check but im gonna drive it till i find it i guess cuz there aint no saving it once it starts well at least theirs no point..

What would make a new block break?

thats what i dont understand.... im hopin it aint.. the weird thing is no matter what temp the car is at.. when you first start it up the noise aint there drive it for a bout 5 min and then it appears drive it to were ever, shut it off let it sit for good 10-15min start it up knockin is gone drive it for a few again and it comes back....


and after 2500rpm or so the knockin is gone and normally a rod knock is there on start up and is more louder and fast the faster the the motor go's so idk..

thanks for any help givin any other ideas bring them to me..

Have you taken the belt off to hear if the sound goes away?

nah not yet i plan on doin that today but im to pooped after workin and putting are truck away.. 200peice truck.. not fun... so im tired and i gotta work at 5am 2morrow so bed isnt far away

i have 2 vids im gonna load up on youtube kind of hard to tell whats goin on in them but you can for sure hear the noise..

as you can see car looks very nice!!!!

haha just noticed the abs light on broke the drivers side front sensor doin the balljoint 3 days ago the day the knock started was debating on just returning the ball joint just cuz if the motor went why install.. ether way still installed what a pain...

That doesn't sound like rod or main bearings. Pull the belt off already.

i know i know .... i need to.. im lazy

has the sound of a ping pong ball in a soup can..

this is a video of the car b4 last motor installed lasted 4k.. was a cam failed motor tho... ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgTvI6n2Rvw ) #2 rod spun a day later...

think i might just pull the oil pan on it the next good day i have off..

Hard to tell but it sounds like an exhaust leak. Check the egr tube and the dpfe hoses.
i know there is a bit of exhaust leak but i think thos are good? aint for sure


Maybe loose torque converter bolts. Definately sounds rythmic.

i thought that to but idk i did feel one the other day when i pulled the Y pipe but it felt tight by hand but that dont mean anything..

the gf just went and took her younger cuz's home and it was around the block took her about 5 min car didnt knock on start up nor was it when she pulled up..

also have to add something else went wrong with it today the horn don't hawk when i hit the lock on the key fob to set the alarm.... haven't tried the horn its self yet

sorry for my bad grammar i suck at writing..... owell.

i know i need to pull that belt its to damn cold right now only like 35degs out...

today really sounds like the alt knockin.. i pulled up and it was doin it thing... popped the hood and it sounds like its coming from were the alt sits.. put my head over it and it sounded like the alternator location.. i got one more day of work then im gonna start really getting into workin on it..

thanks for the help guys ill let ya know what i find out or even if i can figure it out...

well i pulled the belt...... and i dont remember it being so hard

and guess what still has a knocking sound same way i said be four 2-5min ride then it starts..

guess its done for.. unless it don't blow and it turns to something else

only thing i haven't checked is the tq converter nuts but whats my chances..

anyone think i could buy a bearing and throw it in and it would work out and last? i know i haven't seen what it looks like but say its just loosened up and rattly
