So Basically this is the second SHOshop Equal length Y Thats taken a crap on me. Below 3,000 RPM's the car sounds a mid 70's Chevy pickup with a exhaust leak and will slightly sputter on top of that (Its has got worse from this morning to this afternoon) and at higher RPM's it sounds like a Damn catless Y-Pipe. So basically Im assuming the cats are just started to deteriorate as an exhaust shop I took it to could not find an exhaust leak. So, Will any old cat do? Should I be worried about some sort of loss in performance if I use just a standard Cat as opposed to a Highflow one? Thanks!

I wouldn't throw "any old cat" in there. That's what SHO Shop did and look at the results. Measure them up, in / out, length, check for clearance issues, and buy some quality high flow cats.

yeah my shoshop y the cats crapped out fast too I cut the damn things open gutted them and welded it back together so more or less i have a catless y. but it looks like i have cats so no popo can tell me i don't:biggrin: Im getting a stock y pipe to throw on for insepction and im good to go. If you gut the cats you lose some bottom end but do gain power after 4k.:thumb:

Well, I had a stock Y-pipe laying around and threw it in there. The car has its power back but runs kind of weird (Some barely noticable surges under full throttle conditions) but for the most part it runs great. But good lord! This thing feels like a slug with the stock Y On there!

ugh.....I called every exhaust shop possible and to replace the cats was just way to much. I finially said screw it and had a exhaust shop just chop off the cats and make it a catless. The car runs great, has its power etc etc...but god do I hate the sound. Next month when Im in Japan Im just going to send home a SHObro's y-pipe.

I used to hate the sound too Sam but ive gone from driving my vette with corsa exhaust(which is sex to the ears by the way) to driving bandito with the catless and actually enjoying the rasp. I guess u know your a sho nut when you enjoy hearing the rasp between shifts and under full throttle ehh :p

they dont warranty their cats on their y pipes? i had bought a new y pipe for my atx from a company called davico it came with a 2 yr warranty on the cats i had a problem with the pipe i brought it to them and they fixed it cut off the old cats and put new ones right in. i think all companies should stand by their products if they fail in a reasonable amount of time.
