Heads up on those experiencing transmission issues. Replaced a defective front ABS sensor recently that would throw out an intermittent ABS light especially during extremely cold weather. One problem is it caused the opposite side brake to engage the ABS during low speed braking when the wheels were no where near lockup. Another is shifting issues and needing to downshift and during light throttle cruising. What I thought was a transmission on its last legs was actually the sensor relaying bad info to the PCM and causing confusion in the system. It couldn't decide whether to shift up or down and literally would hunt back and forth several times before finally staying in one gear. This occurred frequently going up slight hills where the speed stayed constant but many times a downshifting was delayed or the transmission would start to go haywire.

IMO it's actually not a bad idea to change the wheel sensors out as a maintenance item especially if they're the factory originals like the one's on mine. Considering how much input they are responsible for, many issues are directly traceable to them even though the system is not showing any problems or the problems show up during certain ranges and other times everything seems normal.

I have some problems similar to what you described but I have no code for it (my transmission goes haywire at around 4500 rpm). Did you have a code for yours ? How did you determine which one was the bad one ? I tried to unbolt one on a SLO in the past, he never wanted to exit the hole. Seems to be a PITA to change. Have you a trick to unbolt them ?

Thanks,
