We have this 89 SHO 3litre we bought knowing it didnt run. It turns over real strong, but it just doesnt start. we found it had no spark. So we replaced the ignition control module and the crankshaft sensor. Now we have spark but it wouldnt start still. We thought maybe its not getting gas. Well my dad put his face right down by the throttle body and had me crank it over. it shot a huge flame out the throttle body so we know its firing but the timing is off i think. Needless to say it still doesnt run so Im thinking of resetting the timing, which if im reading the book (chiltons) correctly says basically all i have to do is line up the marks on the crankshaft vibration damper with the 0degree mark, and the index marks on the camshaft sprockets should line up with the index marks on the metal timing belt cover. It seems to simple or good to be true that after all the time and money it could be fxed so simply, any other ideas on what it could be or how i should adjust the timing?

That is the procedure for checking the timing belt alignment. You must remove the upper timing belt cover to see the marks on the pulleys and the rear timing cover. Ignore the white marks on the belt. With the white mark (second when turning CW) crank damper set to the "0", the index marks on the camshaft pulleys may be at either 6:00 or 12:00. If at 6:00, just rotate the crank damper with the 19mm wrench and socket on the bolt one more revolution to get the marks to 12:00.

The condition you describe can also be caused by a failed cylinder identification sensor (CID) on the passenger side of the rear exhaust camshaft.

Just assume you have fuel. Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail schreader valve. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge just push the middle of the valve and gas should come out (sometimes squirting). And sometimes when changing the CKP (crankshaft sensor) when you take off the timing belt one of the cam sprockets can turn when tension of the belt is released when taking the belt off. If you didn't notice the sprocket move and you just put the belt back on without checking the timing marks, you could have a real tough car to start. You need to make sure the cam sprocket "dimples" line up with the rear timing belt cover timing lines and the crank dampner white mark should line up with the 0 mark on the lower timing cover. Good luck
