IIRC, and again, its been a long time, the sax air intake restricted the engine to about one quarter of the air it could demand, while after putting in an unrestricted cold air intake, the engine could get between three quarters and all of the air it wanted, depending on the shaping of the intake. This produced 25-30 engine hp extra over otherwise unmodified engines using the OEM sax intake.
