IIRC, and again, its been a long time, the sax air intake restricted the engine to about one quarter of the air it could demand, while after putting in an unrestricted cold air intake, the engine could get between three quarters and all of the air it wanted, depending on the shaping of the intake. This produced 25-30 engine hp extra over otherwise unmodified engines using the OEM sax intake.

That sounds a bit off. That much of an increase in intake would create a substantial increase in power (though 25-30 hp isn't bad). Not saying you're wrong Stephen, but that perhaps there's more IC-related properties involved, IE the balance between intake and exhaust for optimum conditions and accounting for the compressibility of air, etc. Above my pay grade! That was one of my first mods done as well. I actually was just looking at the pvc bend with rubber coupler in my garage yesterday. I took it off many years ago after it kept slipping off the adjoining air box tube. I might try to get it back on at least during the summer months, with a better seal between wheel well and motor bay.

As for V8 exhaust, I always liked the sound of secondaries opening at the lowest possible throttle - allowed more contrast between primary intake note and the RUMBLE. Those days are gone and never to return as I've REMOVED secondary plates and shafts. Very easily done by the way. Wiring them open is popular but I say just dump the bastards!

Definitely a bigger sound, almost loud in some instances without the Sax. I have it off in both of mine, but added back the neck to the fender as the noise a certain ranges was almost unnerving if you were just driving under normal circumstances.
It will have a bit different throttle response, but I don't know if I would say it actually gains more than 1-2hp.

Its a long time ago that the dyno work was done on this, so I could be remembering wrong. I do not think so, but one never knows. Some of the dyno charts might be still around on line. I have no idea where mine are any more. 29 at 5500 sticks in my head, but I will not swear to it without having to go find the charts, if they are still about. Its been 20 years and one coast to coast move.
