For rattle can, it looks pretty darn good.
Glad to see some Ford blue back under these hoods too. Might borrow your idea, just for aesthetics. Is your intake painted or coated? Being black it helps the blue stand out.

Doing a little bit of improving. Used transmission going in with gearhead Torque Converter. Actually going to reseal some things on the engine and check out everything while I'm in there. Got a tiny front cover leak. Going to fix up the rats nest and probably cerakote some things to make it pretty. Going to probably take a month and just really take my time with it! What you're seeing is about two hours of work!

You mentioned going to install used transmission, I read up all I can on our 6F55 and everyone's recommendation on improvement, besides the lack of friction plates, has you or anyone on our platform done any cryo or WPC treatment on our tranny and also fixed the retainer clip issue in the drum and been able to correct the snap ring issue to keep line from popping? Asking before Slate strips my spare used transmission and sends off parts for treatment.

I'm going to do something with the slippy trans when I take it out but no I haven't done anything like that

It's just black engine enamel

So a trans has been sent on it's way to be built! Now because it won't be a secret of all that is going on because who likes trans build secrets?

It's going to get a shift kit, some "better" than oem clutches, an upgraded valve body that will push some more pressure and a general refresh. Things spiraled pretty quickly on the trans being out.

Can you go deeper into the trans info?
Parts list?
Details on the valve body?

I have a fresh rebuild waiting on the shelf, but have not touched anything in the way of updates.
I did do a shift kit in the unit in the car... didn't notice anything to say wow about, just better sealing, and materials of the plungers. it was more of an update to clean up a possible failing stock part. I'm sure @802SHO would be game for info before packing his all back together as well

I just gave him the transmission yesterday and he is compiling the parts he thinks will be best and going to throw a little back woods transmission knowledge at it. As for specific parts I don't have a lot of part numbers. Essentially I BELIEVE it's going to be the zip kit (which he said addresses valve body pump problems), OEM equivalent clutches which will be an "improvement" by raybestos (not the upgraded ones we've been waiting for) and he said he's going to address the snap ring failure by trying to find a stiffer ring that fits OEM placement.
Jordan, could you share some info on the "better" than oem clutches?
They are the Raybestos RCP96-327 which they list as:

Features/Benefits:
Complete unit coverage.
Contains friction components
manufactured with a unique blend of
high energy fibers for smooth
engagements and high temperature
durability.

I figure I'd give you guys a little synopsis as to why I am going ahead on this rebuild NOW instead of waiting on anything else is I found out that the used transmission that I was swapping on a whim has already been tried and tested to it's limit so I basically have a running and driving transmission that slips with 28lbs of boost in fifth or a who knows transmission and I just can't wait on theoretical parts any longer and need something for the car. So basically going to drop a few grand on this rebuild and my buddy who is doing it is going to warranty the work behind it. He said while it's not going to be a tried and true "built" transmission it'll most likely do everything I need. We are going to experiment with some not typical modifications to see if we can improve the transmission. Realistically the idea is slightly better clutches and more fluid pressure will equal more hold and then we are going to send it.

Please keep us posted on the snap ring for the 3/5/r basket

I also am rocking a younger junkyard trans currently, and even with low miles this one and the two before it, I've killed 3rd and 5th - and it's flair shifting these gears... and clearly burning up the clutches due to this..

current trans has 80k, the zip kit, 50/50 mix of trans fluids and has eaten up those gears/clutches in that basket... the Flex is a big fat turd on the scales

Isn’t the flair shifting 100% solenoid related?

For me it’s been broken wave washer and 3/5 flair shifts. I did ask Matt to tighten up the trans tune on a current E30 tune but it’s winter and I’m back to a 93 tune
He was able to help it a little but it’s still there.
If it is a solenoid driven issue help me understand my next steps.
3 transmission all the same ending 3/5 flair

Here you can see all of the issues coming from the valve body…and most of them lead to burnt clutches too. 816CD059 354D 46EB 85D2 779AD3F6605C

What we need is an upgraded valve body, and from a quick search I found this. I think I’m going to contact the company and get some more info. Swapping out the valve body can be done with the trans in the engine bay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/303514324476

So as I’m looking at it….seems like there’s a lot wrong with our valve body….to the point of like..wouldn’t it be some shit if really all we mostly need to focus on is upgrading it? Just the valve body? We burn up the clutches and think we need better clutches. How many valve body flaws from the factory lead to burnt clutches? Maybe we don’t even know how good our clutches are bc the design flaws of the valve body ruins them. Are we focusing on the wrong thing? Very interesting to see how many areas of concern there are in the above diagram.

Edit: pretend the diagram of the valve body is a school test, all the wrong answers are marked in red. That’s an absolute failure son! Our valve body is 100% the culprit
