I get called by a friend that was trying to have a axle installed on her 92 ATX SHO . They had a axle half way in the pass side and no further . I went in and tryed to get in it the rest of the way with no luck. So after a while I get frustrated and start checking what they had already done. I check the part number on the axle and the splines then go check there old one. The one they pulled wasent broken, so now im wondering whats up . I pop the new axle back out and peak inside the trans.

I dont work on autos but im pretty sure that there is a problem there.

I told her new trans or new car. right ?

typically the female splines are cut w/ one tooth missing, if that is what you are wondering about.

I didn't see that on any of the mtx's I've worked on , go figure . So that's normal on a atx trans to have 1 like that ? I guess I'll tell them to try again with the axle . It was one tuff sob tho . I've done plenty of axles but that one did not want to get on the inside splines at all.

When inserting axles you have to push it in far enough so the snap ring goes in, this can be hard is the snap ring is stretched.

There were no 92 ATX SHO's. But they can be a pain from time to time. Generally they go in pretty easy though.

Ive done lots of mtx's . I have changed both axles on my turbo car in about 2 hours with no hickups. But Ive never done atx trans work , just lots of 60k's. This one did NOT want to go in but I came into this job half way. I just have never seen a spline missing on the trans like , it was late . I said Ill come back to it on my day off . Thanks for the replays.
