fThe tranny will upshift threw the gears very quick rather then hold each gear like it should at WOT , then when you slow down it will down shift each gear rather abruptly, it also wont kick down into a passing gear when you mash it in high gear. its a 95 by the way, any ideas? possibly non related to this issue is the cruise control dont turn on, again maybe related and maybe not, please tell me what you all think.

usually when the cruise isn't working, and your having said shifting problem, it usually points to the VSS. it's a cheap sensor, but a PITA to get at with tranny in the car. it can be tested with a digital multi meter, but you really have to have it out to get at it. my manual is in the garage, i will post the values for resistance on the multi test if your doing the work yourself, this is just a place to start. anyone else wanna chime in

Probably a seperate issue - you can check your ABS for codes. Search the forum as there's instructions on how to do it.

To test it you'll need a O-scope. Since it puts out a analog a/c signal.

But Im betting its safe to say its your VSS.

Ill make a write up on it since Im doing it tommorow.

The car reved fine and speedo worked fine, it only had upshifting and down shifting issues, we tested the VSS with a ohm meter and it was just about outa spec, The used one i had laying around was in spec and i installed it and now the cruise works and the shifting is fine, so all fixed. ;)

glad that test worked out for you! good to hear you up and running again, i figured as much as the vss. pesky little sensors.
