When accellerating from a stop my '95 ATX has 5 RPM "Events".
1 - Starting out in 1st Gear;
2 - Firm shift;
3 - Firm shift;
4 - a lazy/soft shift;
5 - Firm shift.

My question is this: Which one of these "events" is the lockup converter, and which is OD? I'm hoping that #4 is the torque converter lockup - otherwise I'm probably losing 4th gear.

1 - duh
2 - 1/2 shift
3 - 2/3 shift
4 - TC lockup
5 - 3/4 shift.

You're fine. When the RPM needle is in the same clock position as the speedo needle, you're in 3rd with a locked TC. If the RPMs are above the speedo needle, you're in 3rd with an unlocked TC. If it's below the speedo needle, you're in 4th. You'll know it if you're in second.

Here is my understanding of the ATX shifting. If this is not correct, please tell me.

2nd gear TC unlocked
3rd gear TC unlocked
3rd gear TC locked
4th gear TC unlocked
4th gear TC locked

3rd gear TC unlocked
3rd gear TC locked
4th gear TC unlocked
4th gear TC locked

That is correct. The 3rd gear unlocked/locked is hard to notice unless at very light throttle or WOT.

Well usually the 4th gear locks the TC quite soon after the shift, so unless you're paying attention you won't really notice it. That is, of course, assuming you're at light throttle...
