I just bought my second SHO about a month ago, but it my first ATX. Is it usual for them to shift hard. Sometimes when you get on it, it take a half second or so to get going. Am I just use to the MTX'S or what. THANKS

i think alot of people have the same problem, so its normal to the tranny but it shouldnt really be doing it if thats what youre asking. which shift is hard? the 1-2 shifts always suck in the ATX but your other ones should be ok, if not maybe you have a real problem.

I went to the dealership once and they said that they did not pull any code problems for anything. Does anyonr know a way to purchace one of those devices that the dealership uses to pull codes. Normaly it does it from 1-2. One day I just can off the freeway doing about 30mph to a stop and I took off the O/D and I heard a big CLUNKING sound when the transmission went down in gears. What the f was that I said. Has anyone had that problem. Thanks

i know you can buy the $70 version of the scantool from autozone, pepboys, etc. walmart has the version that beeps to give you the codes for about $25 with the book of codes. you could do it yourself for free you know. you only need a paperclip and a pencil. all you need is on this page. let us know what happens.

1-2 shift on an ATX do not suck.
They suck if your tranny is on its way out, VSS is bad, a computer problem, or engine running problem.

With a good tranny, the 1-2 shifts are as smooth or tires spinning as you want it to be.

More than likely the tranny could stand a rebuild, and a Transgo lubrication kit.

Search for pulling codes in the search function.
You can get the codes you need with a 4" piece of wire, and your eyeballs on the check engine light.

kchdsho, definately check your codes.

Bluto, good call on the codes, and no offense meant or anything but in all reality, you can see for yourself on the forum that 90% of the ATX trannies out there have crappy 1-2 shifts (on the stock trannys anyhow), even if they are in good shape, its characteristic of the design for some reason, especially the 93's as we all know :D (which unfortunately sucks for me but knock on wood for now...) i think alot of it had to do with the programs in the ECU which is why its popular to put a D4U1 in the 93's. also i guess because the 93 had alot of aluminum parts in the tranny and the 94-95 has more steel parts. but even the 94 and 95 arent known for great 1-2 shifts. im sure there are some awesome ones out there, but most of them are lacking, which is where Ted Breaux comes in ::cue music:: :D im sure your 1-2 is awesome with your new tranny though. but do you like the transgo? im curious about getting one for my next tranny, but is every shift really hard or is it soft if your being soft on the gas and hard if your WOT? thanks man!

You do need to get used to the throttle position to make it shift the way you want.
If you have very light acceleration, sometimes it will shift a little harder.
Normal accel it shifts smoothly.
WOT it chirps in second. It doesn't slam into gear at all.
The shift time is shortened, and I like to call it "snap into gear".

I e-mailed Ted, and he said since I had a transgo kit, he probably would not reprogram the shift points. When I am ready to buy a chip, I will call him, and see what my options are.

As far as 90%......I agree, but they are tranny's that need work. I try not to drive my car like speed racer all the time. I also will change the fluid much more often just to be safe.

Bluto, yeah, i am planning on fabricating a drain plug for my ATX so i can at least change those 4 quarts in the pan every 2-3 months. i cant see taking it to a shop to have all the fluid sucked out since it cost me about 110 bucks to have it done last time. i was definately curious about the light acceleration shifting, i dunno if i could take it if it was always slamming into gear when i was trying to keep it nice and smooth. i will definately look into getting the kit when i have my tranny redone.

I am quite a few hours away from you, otherwise I would let ya check mine out.

I just lower the pan everytime I change the oil and filter.

Sorry, but what is a transgo kit and what is it for. How much and where can I get it. Is it what I need? Please help.
a transgo kit is an aftermarket mod for your transmission which helps the tranny to lubricate itself better (Bluto, correct me if im wrong on anything here, you know more about it than i do!) this gives you tight, crisp shifts, and at wide open throttle you can break the tires in second if you have enough mods on your car i bet wink

you really wouldnt want to put it in a tranny as old as yours or mine, its best to put in a new or newly rebuilt tranny as far as i know.
