I'm getting a code that states "High Transmission Pressure". I have a firm 1/2 shift when normal driving and at wot the transmission will not shift at all. It just redlines in every gear. normal driving the 2/3 and 3/4 shifts are fine. My plan is to replace the epc solenoid? This doesent seem to be to bad of a job but is the side pan able to be removed with the trans in the car? Also where should I go to get this looked at? And would they charge me to just have the transmission tester put on it?

Thanks!

Trans pressure solenoids often go bad, according to my trans guy, so that could be it.

Yes, you can pull the side cover off w/ the engine and trans in the car, its not a lot of fun but it is able to be done. You need to jack up the left side of the engine, remove the transmission mount and the mounting bracket piece, then pull the cover off.

There is a reason I requested the exact fault code - especially since there is no sensor that measures the "transmission pressure", there must be some other reason for whatever code is being pulled.

Does anyone know how much a shop/dealer would charge to just throw a tranny tester on it? I'm getting code 624 (O,M) Solenoid/circuit failure -Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) currennttt is high - Transmissions

If you have a multi-meter, you can easily test the EPC solenoid's resistance from the AX4S' top connector to see if it has a detectable electrical fault.

Keep in mind that a 15-year old vehicle is the last thing a dealer tech wants to see since it means he has to dig out tools and procedures that either 1) he's too new to have seen before or that 2) he's probably forgotten... An independent shop (not a chain) who has done a lot of older Ford Taurus transmissions would be a better choice.

As rubydist mentioned, it is VERY challenging to get that side cover off, but it can be done.
