Since my Primary SHO has kinda died on me, I'm considering doing a Tranny swap from the 94 into into the 93 Parts car which runs great and has a little better paint job. My local tranny shop said that if the tranny's didn't have the same "numbers" I could blow the computer. Any truth to this? He said he could do the transplant for $500 so.

I know that the wiring going into the 94 is different than the 93, but as for blowing the computer, then I would think that hte people swapping in 94 computers into their 93 cars would be blowing computers left right and center

I'm in the process of swapping in a 94 trans into a 91 regular Taurus, I forsee no problems with it, the only thing that I have to change is the dual plugs, have to be corrected and go to the single

Why not drop the motor from the 93 in the 94?

Thr 94 transmission, put into a 93, will not have any affect on the computer. The question is whether the 93 computer will be able to "communicate" with the 94 transmission.

Check all of the attached sensors by part numbers and see which ones are different from the 93, such as the speed sensor, VSS, P/N safety switch, torque converter lock-up solenoid, etc. Any of the controlling electronics that are different than the 93 should be replaced with the 93 components. This way the trans is going to be controlled by 93 computer programming via the 93 components or their equivalant.

This will work unless their are any major mechanical differences or electronic differences between the 94 and 93 trans.

I just swapped a 94' ATX into my 93'. No problems.

What did you have to compare, to make sure it would work ok? With my luck so far on SHO's, I'd spend the money to do the swap and something else would go wrong. Don't be suprised if there are suddenly 2 parts cars for sale here in the forums soon. Nearly $4,000 spent so far and I still have nothing I can even drive to my mailbox with.

Nothing to compare, just knowledge. I don't think that there are any differnces sensor wise. I knew a 93' TQ would not work on a 94-95- tranny, but that was not an issue for me. I already upgraded my SHO to a D4U1 ECU.

What have you done to spend 4K?

You can always throw the 94 computer in the 93, along with the tranny. As for the motor swap, I don't think there's any difference. Maybe someone else can answer that though, as I'm not 100% on that. I'd rather swap engines and keep the 94 model for resale purposes.

'94 and '93 trannys are completely interchangeable, as long as the right torque converter is used. The '93 uses a 23 spline and the '94+ uses 25. Electronics are the same. So, as long as you use the '94 converter, you're fine.

Thanks, that will be a great help. I may just do an engine transplant from the 93 into the 94 since it has the full leather and Premium sound while the 93 has just the regular stereo and 50/50 seats. I'll probably wait a month or so to save up some cash for a new set of high flow cats and new cat back exhaust as well as new axle's and do it all at once.
