Nope, buy the book from your local transmission parts supplier. It is the key, step by step pictures and directions. It isn't that hard, I was nervous at first but it came out pretty well so far.

I have the ATSG manual. I have thought about doing one myself but will admit that it looks scary. Do you really need all the special tools that is calls for?

Sooooooooo.....

Anyone know someone that can do a rebuild on the cheap with all updates and new parts?

I don't mind if it takes awhile as it's been sitting over a year anyways...

It always shifted really hard (slammed) into second gear, put in some TransRX and then everything beyond first/reverse slips like butter..

I'd almost want to swap it out for a manual...sounds more fun, but that's a lot more work.

forgot one last thing that needs to be replaced and have the part for was front motor mount...

Anyways, yeah, I'd buy any parts, fluids, etc, as I can, if someone could do the rebuild, I'd pay. :)

I have the ATRA and it has step by step instructions with pictures. I bought the rebuild kit from Whatever It Takes. I have about $500 in it so far and should be down tomorrow or Monday. I am about 75% of reassembly. It's not hard but I would charge about $400-$500 to rebuild one if I was doing it for someone else, plus parts of course. A simple rebuild kit with steels was $200ish. I bought a new drive chain and filter which added about 80 bucks. Then further into the build I notice the Pump was the reason for failure. I purchased a used Pump Shaft and a Rebuilt Pump Assembly for $140ish from Whatever It Takes. I don't regret it at all. It does take a press with a special head on it. I made one at my uncles shop so no big deal for me.
Good Luck and give it a try....or sell me the car. My brother in law wants one now and has never even seen mine move!
