Someone mentioned a while back that they were using some kind of remote oil filter on their SHO to help keep the starter cleaner. Anybody got a link or suggestions? Thanks.

I haven't moved it, or heard of that, but I just cover the starter with a plastic grocery bag when changing the oil. Tuck the bag back, so the oil goes on the plastic instead of the starter. And buy a starter with a lifetime warranty!

I used the Amsoil dual remote filter kit, moved the filters to the area in front of the radiator, toward the driver's side. There is a flat area there a person can mount the bracket.
Not only does this eliminate the oil on the starter, it cools the oil. Also, since it has a bypass filter, it filters the oil MUCH better than just having a full flow filter. Full flow filters can't filter well because they are limited to filtering larger particles (over 12-25 microns, while allowing smaller, wear causing particles to pass through) due to the design, which is severely compromised by having to have larger pore filters due to the full flow limitation. Adding a bypass allows the filter material to be uncompromising in filtering out very small particles which also cause wear.
Mine has really kept the oil clean. Also added a couple quarts to the total capacity, a side benefit.

The Summit remote oil filter mounts are limited to single filters. Of course, depending on how you mount it, you can use a much longer filter, which increases capacity and provides another quart or so of oil.
I believe that a dual mount, which allows use of a bypass filter in addition to the full flow filter, is a much better set up.

One concern I've read about with filter relocation kits is possible detrimental effects from the added resistance to flow that the oil lines impose. What are your thoughts on that Dave?

I'm going to the AMSoil dual remote system prolly next week if I can put enough cash aside to order it, and cover the deposit on my valve lash kit deposit from the SHOshop. $450 is a bit of money to tie up for a while. I'm seriously thinking that I want to get the bypass on there before I open the valve covers up. I had to wait till I reached 4000miles at least on my M1-301 before I wanted to do the change. I'm gonna be soooooo careful not to spill any oil on my nice nearly new clean starter.

I'm thinking that I might order the AMSoil setup without the lines and then figure out what stainless steel lines I need so that I can mount it where ever I want under the hood. Plus wouldn't SS lines reduce the loss of any oil pressure? Hmmmm

Then again now that I think about it since the oil pump is positive displacement the only negative effect would be an increase in oil pressure. As long as the increase doesn't trip the engine's pressure relief valve it wouldn't be a problem.

where would one find the oil filter adapter
that fits the 3.0 engine?
for use with the dual filter mount.
I know permacool sells items as such
I will look as soon as Im done here.
Im using 5w30 amsoil past 10k
used only 2 quarts oil, has rear
main leak, the leak has been slowing
down past 4k, runs like a champ
