It took me a bit of time to figure out the issue. Some folks have been pulling fuses and looking for problems with the USB/Sync system (or so I have read).
Turns out it is the iPhone 4. When you plug it in to USB and then it connects via Bluetooth, it switches the phone to "Sync".
If you go to the iPod app on the phone and touch the little arrow at the bottom, it will give you a menu that allows you to select "Dock" instead of "Sync" and then Bob's your uncle!
Thought this might save someone some aggravation.
