long story short I replaced a transmission in my '95, putting it back together,I accidentally had an engine fire that melted the wiring harness. I got a new engine from a '92, put it in and now it cranks, but without spark, or fuel. The fuel pump worked before i put the new engine in, now it doesn't kick on. I have tried a both the old, and the new ccrm (m-code) for this engine, and also tried 3 different DIS modules to no avail, both of the engines are mtx. anybody know what i should try next?

I think they should be the same. Both have xj2 ecus. Have you checked all the fuses?

I have tried all of the fuses under the hood, and under the drivers side dash and didn’t have any that were blown.

Okay zoomlater I will read through it when I get home, I don’t know if it is helpful, but when I try to run a koeo test the test doesn’t even start the test the check engine light just stays solid.

So how did you repair the melted wiring harness? Did you use wiring from the 92 car or just replaced the melted wires in your 95 car?

wiring harnesses are substantially different between 92 and 95 even though they use the same pcm. you will not have success putting a 92 wiring harness in a 95.

i didn't repair the burnt one, i kept them in their respective engines, and just did a full swap of the engine. did i do all of that work for nothing?

Ok, so let's get all this straight. You have a 95 mtx. You replaced the trans and the engine caught fire. You replace that with a 92 engine and get no spark, no fuel. Swap ccrm from 95 to 92 and still no spark, no fuel. All fuses are ok, koeo with the jumper pin in reads a steady CE light? You say you kept the harnesses with the respective engines. So you kept all the wiring with the 92 engine and plugged it into the 95 connector on the fire wall?

You have to get an unburnt 95 wiring harness complete with the "D" CCRM.

As an example, your 95 has a 2 speed radiator fan and your 92 wiring harness (and CCRM) are wired for the single speed fan.

There is no difference in the motors between 92 and 95 if they are both MTX, it is the wiring harness that is causing y0ur issue.

okay, i was hoping that wasn't the case, but i figured it might be. i knew the radiator fan needed replaced, the original was rusted onto the mounts, so i had to cut it out so i was just going to replace that with a 92. so my best bet without trying to hunt down a wiring harness from a 95, would be to attempt to merge the two harnesses? so they have the right connectors and aren't melted?

No, your best bet would be to get a 95 harness and put that in.

If you want to "merge" the two harnesses, you will need a wiring diagram from the 92 and from the 95 and about 50-100 hours of work. I have played that game and it is a royal pita. Unless you are very bored this winter, you do not want to go down that road.

so they have the right connectors and aren't melted?

The connectors being damaged is the least of your problems. If you unwrap both harnesses, you will find completely different wires doing somewhat the same job, but pin to pin will not be the same on the CCRM or anything else it connects to.

The fact that the harness physically plugs into the Powertrain Control Module is fooling you into believing the harnesses are close to being the same, they are wildly different.

You can post in the want to buy section to see if anyone has a 95 MTX engine wiring harness. Other sources you can try are:

SV&HODan (on this forum) or Shosource (at their website)
