Hey all,
Well, after washing my engine bay with water (yes I know, I will never do that again), I notice that my EATC likes to shut off completely while driving. For instance, after take off, reaching 3,000 rpms, the display goes completely blank. It comes back on after a couple of seconds with the 888 display like you recieve when you first start up. When reaching highway speeds, it likes to come on and go off like someone snapping their fingers continuously. It's really driving me nuts. I'm sure there's probably a short in one of the wires because I ran the self test and the results were 888-no problem.
Well, I don't really know how to approach this problem. I was wondering if you all had any good advice. On a slightly better note, this problem has made me want to upgrade to the hard buttoned EATC. I figure if I'm going to have to tear apart the old one anyways, why not start anew.

Anything else messing up too? Sounds like the alternator is acting up and shutting off or limiting power output once the rpms increase. Just a shot in the dark.

Mine does the same exact thing. I just doesn't bug me that much I guess. I'd like to know what the cause is though.

I just got the alternator replaced about a month ago. I had the same problem then, too. My old alternator was charging the battery at 18 volts (the norm is 14-14.3). I sure hope I'm not having problems with this one. I think it's gotta be a short or something.

By the way, is it hard to install the newer hard buttoned EATCs? How do you do it?

Intermittent EATC operation can often be attributed to lower supply voltage provided to the head unit.

Check the power feeds at the dash to see if you are loosing power in the distribution wiring.
