If you have a '96 or newer taurus this is a brightening mod. Make sure it is legal in your state................
I wired in the turn signals as companion brake lights. This will work with the red turn signals as well as the amber. Not much in the way of material is needed. A small female spade crimp terminal, a crimp blue wire tap connector and about 3' of 16 or 18 ga wire. I have included a pic of the small spade connector in relation to the normal larger one.
I removed the multifunction switch to do this. This requires removal of the ignition key cylinder and the upper and lower shell on the column.
To remove the key cylinder you need to have the key in the run position, and a 1/8" metal something or other. I used a allen wrench. You will see a small hole under the key cylinder, while the key is in run push up with the allen and pull out on the key. It will take a little effort and wiggling around but it will pop out.
Then there are three phillips screw that hold the shell together. Take these out and it all comes apart. Then there are two torx screws that hold the multifunction switch on. Remove these and the switch will be hanging by the two connectors. Remove the top connector (#269). Locate the #9 pin hole on the connector, there is no wire there now. Using a 3/16" bit drill out the gray side of the #9 pin on the connector (but not all the way through). This will open the hole enough to get the spade terminal to fit. Then put the connector back on the switch, crimp the wire to the spade terminal and using a needle nose pliers push the spade terminal with wire onto the switch terminal tab.
Run the wire though the dash, avoiding sharp edges and securing with enough slack, to the brake light switch. Here you need the red w/gray wire and using the tap connector splice in the new wire. That's it. Button all up and enjoy.
