Alternator problem?

Friday night my battery light came on, and my battery soon died. Atlernator right, well took it off had it checked and the diode is bad. Got it replace under warrenty, it was bad off the shelf, found another one in town, it was also bad. Had to drive 400 miles round trip to get a working one, installed it and the battery light is still on. When I first start it you can barley see the light but it is on, and once you hit about 2K rpms the light comes right back on bight and solid red. Is there a fuseable link on the firewall that could have blown that would cause this? I have had the battery checked, its good and had Orielys charge it for 30 mins, replaced the negitive battery cable, had corosion on it. What else is there? Any help is much appreciated.

my car did this many years ago .. and it turned out to be bad battery cables. U might want to tighten all your cables down from the battery to the starter etc ...

You might check the plug that connects to the alternator. I found that mine had 1 wire inside the plug that was loose, I had to sodder it back together. Or maybe even look at the power wire that connects to the alternator on the bottom right side, sometimes this can come loose also.

I just got home from work and I 'll at thoes things again and everything was nice an tight. Then I looked at a fuseable link by the driver side firewall and it there was a fuseable link that was just burnt to a crisp. Thx for the replys, I got to go to the dealer tomarrow to get the 12 gauge fuseable link, autopart stores only have 14 gauge links. Thanks again, I'll post if it doesn't fix it.

Use a **** fuse and inline fuse holder instead of the fusable link. www.delcity.net

What exactly is the difference in a fuseable link and a **** fuse? And what amp fuse would I put in it?

A **** fuse is replaceable like an ordinary fuse, looks like a huge blade fuse. They can be had in sizes up to 60 amps. Use identical ones in parallel to get higher ratings.

If the 12ga wire is the only fuseable link going out of the alternator you need about 100 amps or so of fuses (2-50A).

It has been my experience that your alternator will seldom if ever put out the amperage it is rated at. 100 A is good for almost any alternator system.

use a those green and red rings on the battery studs, they help attract away the rusts instead onto the battery conenctions.

Thanks for the info guys, what sucks is that now that I fixed that problem, my fuel pump went out. When it rains it pours... headbang
