Air leak inside car from center cons?

I have what sounds like an air leak, like from a tire with a hole in it, coming from my center console on my 95 ATX.

It is only there while the car is running, and I have not noticed any adverse effects from it.

You can hear it really well if you put your ear by the ashtray, my trans is fine, and my climate control works fine, the only thing that change is is when you put it in drive it seems to decrease.

I have had the console out, and I can not hear it out side the car, under the hood or underneath. I can't seem to locate the source.

I am just wondering what else to check, or if anyone has had the same problem.

Yep. There are several vacuum lines to the EATC.

With the ATX, you probably have the automatic parking brake release. The vacuum switch that controls this is on the shifter. The parking brake should release when you put the car in a forward gear.

I had the exact same problems in my 93 and found it to be the vacuum lines that control the gearshift indicator. I couldn't stand it anymore and disconnected them, but now my little orange bar doesn't indicate which gear my car is in... I never really care because I know reverse is 1 notch back and drive is 3 notches back. To solve the problem correctly I never investigated further, but I'll betcha that's the source of your hissing if you will. shrug

I had the same thing in my car, but I only heard when I had my console out at one time. After I reinstalled the console, the noise was gone (I'm assuming the console just blocks the hissing noise) shrug
