The SHOTimes write-up uses the side marker wires to power the bulbs:
http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/mod...e=article&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0&sid=197

But I want the bulbs to be powered at all times when the parking lights/headlights are on. In other words, I don't want them to blink with the turn signals. I have my lights already setup so that when my parking lights are on I can turn my fog lights on and off. Is it possible to splice the fish tanks bulb wires in to the fog light wiring? They are the only source of constant power, irregardless of when the turn signals are activated, that I can think of constant power being drawn when the parking lamps are on (unless of course I turn the fog lamps off). Should this pose any problems?

Thanks for any advice!
Mike

I wired mine to the signal/parking light harness. Mine are on when my parking lights are on and they also blink with my signals. I wired it into that side signal in the side marker I believe. There pretty sweet because the way I have it hooked up when my signal is on it flashes my side marker, and when that shuts off the fish tank flashes then the side marker then fish tank and its pretty sweet.:thumb:

To answer old boy's question, there shouldn't be any problem with splicing them into the fog lights if you don't want them flashing with the turn signals. T'would probably be the only way to do it so they don't flash. I personally prefer my fish tanks to blink, especially when they alternate with the lights on.

Yea, I'm all for the alternating thing, seen it once, and had to have it. Just havent bought the bulb housing's yet. I'm assuming you can still get those? I'm assuming I'll just get a bulb housing for the corner light? Are they still available new? Or is this a junkyard item?

I used 4 peanut bulb housings( two for each side duh) you can get them at autozone, and I also used the amber 4 LED peanut style bulb. Boy did it look sharp ;) :thumb:

The turn signals have 3 wires. One is ground, one is power to the running light filament, and the third goes to the blinker filament. You should be able to tap into the running light wire and the ground and you'll have your power. No blinky. I believe the running light wire is brown, but use a test light and find out for sure.

This may be a dumb question, but let's say I do tap in to the side marker wires. When my parking lights and/or headlights are on, will the fish tanks be lit up without having to turn the turn signals on?

I was looking at the corners I got, and they have the same bulb housing obviously. Has anyone tried tracing out that pattern, and cutting that into the light with say a dremel, so they can actually be a functional hole, instead of just a 5/8 round hole? I think I'm going to try and see how this works out.

Also this is a picky thing, but for all the amber lights.... are their any companies that make clear bulbs, that light up amber for these? Not just the small bulb but the larger one too. Just wondering if anyone has them, or found them anywhere.

I saw some bulbs that look clear and illuminate amber at Kragen's the other day. I believe Sylvania makes them.

Maybe try Autozone. It looks like there's some in Fort Wayne. As far as I can tell, they seem almost identical; The fast-food of auto parts.

LoL.. yea I am always leary of what I buy there, but then again that could be the habit of general SHO ownership. Like the guy at the brake place telling me about resurfacing my hubs when doing a brake job. :)

The Sylvanias that light up amber, but are "clear" are part of the silverstar line I believe. Just so you know, the bulb is actually a rainbox kind of color, not clear. When you see the bulb behind the lens, it has a bluish color to it.

The cheap way to do it is to spray a light coat of silver paint on the amber bulb. The silver paint is translucent, so the light shines through but you don't seem the amber when its off.

Interesting... :) Well, I got my tanks lit up now.. looks a LOT better with those new clear corners, and new headlights. Car isnt so 'busted' looking. I did cut that pattern out of my tanks too. Took a clear peice of plastic, traced the hole in the corner light, then cut that out with a razor, put it on the fishtank, and buzzed it out with a dremel. Worked like a charm. And no having to use some kinda sealant. The soft material in the bulb housing helped it to seal against it, and one 1/4 turn and they're in.

Fishtank mod on my SHO

Posting a reply to an old post...:)

When adding lights to the Fishtanks, for light sockets/pigtails, Do you use the same lamp sockets that are used for the little tiny bulbs for the corners? I think the bulbs are Sylvania 194N (I think). Not the white lights that come on with the turn signal (when headlights are on), but the little corner bulb sockets.

Are those what you use?? Everything else seems pretty straight forward about that mod.

Thanks...:)

That is the one. 194 bulbs are the little guys in the corner lamps. Easy mod that I will be doing this weekend hopefully :thumb:

I wired mine to the turn signals....when the lights are off, they blink with the outer turn signals...if the parking lights or headlights are on, then they alternate with each other. Turned out pretty good, IMHO
