My AC randomly shuts off & sometimes will turn back on, usually have to turn it back on using the touch screen. When I turn it back on sometimes it runs for 20 minutes, other times it shuts off in 30 seconds. It never happens while running the heat in any mode but always happens when running the AC at the Max setting or regular. Any ideas or suggestions?

Could be the a/c disengaging meaning that the clutch is bad or low Freon

Set it to Max with the fan at the highest speed, drive with your windows opened in a hot day. If the AC doesn't stop and works fine it most likely low on gas.
When low, the evaporator can ice up, the thermostat will sense a "too cold" condition and will shut off the compressor. At least this is how some of the AC's I've worked on operate.

Sometimes a failing APIM (accessory protocol interface module) can make your climate control do weird and unpredictable things. If the other recommended diagnostics don’t work might be worth checking out. I believe Ford’s APIM modules are notorious for being defective. Unfortunately, they cost big bucks to replace. Good luck and God speed!

Last time I worked on an AC there were no modules, interfaces or protocols. Plain and simple thermostat, relays and pressure switches.

I feel your pain. Don’t quote me but I think there are about 30 separate modules in our cars to control the various systems.

Hello
I have found an update to my A/C shutting down. It is a climate control malfunction by the APIM module (Accessory Protocol Interface module) the following link is how to fix the problem. this is fior my 2014 but the 2015 may have the same issues

Howdy all. I have a 2015 SHO that has recently developed an issue similar to what is being discussed here. The fan will not run at all. I first swapped the blower module and fan assembly with a rockauto cheapy and after about 2 months of working fine, the fan suddenly would always be one when the car was running, I was unable to change the speed or turn it off. I figured the Chinese module crapped out so I put in a fomoco module in (and reinstalled the original fan assembly) and it worked for an hour. Now nothing. I can hear the compressor kick on and the blend door working as I select the various vent outputs. I will try and put the rockauto fan assembly back in tomorrow but I am at a loss. Could this be the Apim? FWIW, I updated my Livernois tune software a few weeks ago (spark plugs, thermo and 3 bar installed when I had the timing chain replaced). Could the tune be causing gremlins? I am confident with replacing the Apim myself. I need to do something soon, it's getting cold here in PA. Thanks all!

Had the heater and AC issue on my 2015. Tried new battery first, but had to take it to the stealership. $635.00 later and a new module installed, problem solved. Oh that included the diagnostics even though I told them it was most likely the APIM module.

Hmmmmm. I think I will just spring for the APIM and install it myself. Thanks for helping to confirm what my interwebs sleuthing has turned up.

I think I ran into this with my 2015 SHO. Is the APIM the screen? Is a behaviour that the Climate turns itself off randomly?

Did the replacement of the APIM fix the issue with the A/C turning off randomly? My SHO has just now started experiencing this issue.

Check the freon first, recharge it and see it if helps. Easiest thing to do first.

If the vents blow warm but the climate control is still set to A/C then its likely a compressor/freeon issue. if the Climate controls are literally turning themselves off I would guess APIM or battery. I dont think these cars have feedback programmed into the system to change user inputs based on a system fault (i could be wrong). If the system shuts the compressor off due to a low pressure condition it shouldnt change the controls in the cabin it should just blow warm and make you say uh-oh. but if you turn on A/C (button is lit up for it) and a few seconds/minutes later it has turned itself back off (light is off) my money is on APIM. I would verify voltage to battery while running, check freeon, and go from there, if you have proper voltage and a charged system then you can look for the gremlin knowing you have the basics.

Man I forgot what it was on mine. But it was just a little relay or sensor or something near the condenser. Whatever it does it was keeping the compressor from engaging.

Sorry I can’t remember, it was like 2018 when that went out.
