1- Where exactly on the firewall is the ABS fuse? I've looked on the car, in the Chilton's, and done searches, not helpful enough. What does it look like maybe?

2- I'll be without ABS for a long while. Is there an easy way (besides pulling the dash apart) to extinguish the BRIGHT "Anti-Lock" light?

Thanx in advance..

half-way there, I think.
The eariler cars do not have an under the hood fuse box, so you're not going crazy. It has fusible link. I'm not sure how to disconnect the power to it. What's the problem with the ABS anyway??

hehehe
I broke both front sensors doing a wheel bearing job. One on accident, the other to relieve stress since it was also being stubborn...

I'm not super wealthy, and since ABS isn't a priority for me (and the wife is getting uptight about the money and attention our only car gets wink ) I won't be replacing them right away.

Autobahnsho,

The prior post is right. There are three fusable links and a power relay in the system, no fuse per se. The power comes through the ignition and the starter relay.

If the light bothers you put a piece of electricians black tape over the light until you get the funds to fix the ABS sensors.

How did the bearing and hub replacement go? What was the source of the frustration? If it was the wife I do not want to know. :D rangerj

Thanks for the replies.

rangerj-
It went ok, took me excessive time though. The ABS sensors are a MPITA- MAJOR pain in the ...

I was twisting, pulling, trying not to break them. Finally I pulled w/ some channel locks and broke the passenger side.

I then had a hard time finding some plates (blocks of steel really) to mount the knuckle on so that I could press the hub/ bearing out. The dustshield then got in the way. I got a chisel and broke the rivets off, then removed it. The whole knuckle/supports almost all fell on my foot one time, the press setup there isn't the greatest.

So I tried to unhook the cables for the drivers side to just bring the whole thing but the stupid connecter took me 15+minutes to pry out without breaking. (I really don't want to break connectors..)

I started to get the dust shield off and gave it a hard whack with a big friendly hammer - it broke off one of the rivets so I had more space to get the rivet on the flattened side. So I just beat on it until it came off the other 2. :D

I throw it on the press and smooshed the sensor. SO I put a flat-tip screwdriver on it and beat it with a hammer till there were holes in it and I pulled the pieces out...

Then it all went back together ok, until I put the lug nuts on- the studs are about 1/2 an inch too short. Part of the nuts aren't even on.

This weekend I might check if I can get the studs out of the old hubs easily, in which case I'll swap them.

Anyway- thanks again for the help. My grinding around corners (and squeaking after driving high speed for a while) is gone!

moral of the story is, "You need a bigger hammer. " rofl
(nd some electrician's tape.)

ABS ie Auto Bahn Sho,

It woud have been easier to drill out the rivets for the dust shield! I drilled mine out. Then I tapped the holes and put in short stainless steel bolts.

I used a 1/2 inch wire brush. like plumbers use to clean out 1/2 in. pipe. I cut the loop off of the handle so I could mount it in a drill. I used this to clean out the hole the ABS sensor goes into.

When I install the sensor I coat it with anti-sieze compound. The next time it will come out with ease. I did all four sensors this way before they become rusted to the knuckles.

The studs should "press' out of the old hubs. Use a socket as a "receiver". rangerj
