The past couple of times I have turned on my car My ABS ligth has come on, however if I turn the car off and restart it, it dissapears. It doesn't always turn on, only on random occasions. Is there a common problem with SHOs and the ABS system that would cause this?

I forgot to add that the light comes on after I move the vehicle, the ABS goes through its self test when I start the vehicle but when I drive off it comes on.

Kinda sounds like a speed sensor problem to me. The ABS unit forgets codes when the key is turned off. The easiest way to figure it out is to use a scann tool and monitor wheel speeds, maybe there is a way to pull the codes manually, I don't know about that being as I have access to the dealers scann tool. thumbs_u

AARONSBIZA,

Look at the sensor "ring" at each of the axels. Look for any break in the ring. The ring looks like a gear.

Check your codes, (not the ABS codes) for a speed sensor code. If you have access to a "scan tool" made for the ABS system, then scan the ABS computer for its codes. If you do not have access to an ABS scanner, then there is a test that can be done at each sensor.

If I remember right it is an ohms resistence test.
I do not have access to my reference material, so maybe one of the other forum members will be kind enough to describe the ABS sensor tests.

As a last resort you can go to a dealer, or an aftermarket shop tht has an ABS scanner, and pay for the "diagnostic" time. Sorry I can't be of more help, rangerj

WDNITRO,

Read the above response. The same applies to you. Check your sensor rings at each axel for any broken rings.

If non are found, check the connection at each sensor. Check the Computer for a speed sensor code. If this does not do, then the ABS sensors should be tested. rangerj

It might be a air bubble in the abs system. I had to replace the drivers side rear hose awial back and there was a bubble tripping my light. I got on it one day really hard, and the front passenger side tire did the "hop-hop" and it worked the bubble out from as far as I can tell. Now it works flawless.
