about a tune what you guys think

ok where i work there is a guy that comes thru all the time.. and he says he tunes cars and works out of lavonia.. i was asking him if he does sct tunes and he said oh yea... and then i asked him if he does it with a/f raito's and he said yea.. and then i said im gonna have to come see you one time about this..

he told me b4 about 350 or so for just a like preset chip tune.. or like 550 i think for the dyno tune. would it be worth trying to used this guy.. he says he tunes all kinds of cars he has a sts v caddy and he said he tuned it.. he also does where a uniform so i know he works for that place and he's not pulling my leg..

but, what do you guys think.. or maybe he had tuned one of your sho's he said he has done them b4....

local place charges 350 to dyno tune freshly turbocharged cars .... 550 for dyno tuning an unmodified car is insane

Get a flasher then you can update the tune whenever plus data log the good stuff anytime.

i tryed to get you to explain this more but you never did i no pretty much nothing about the tuning besides it better for the car and runs better shifts better.. i understand thats its a better program just that how do you do it.. and the way you made it sound is it would cost like 5-600$ for the dyno tune and all once i got the chip down to the dyno tune may'd....

i know it sounds like alot for a tune but when sho123 was telling me about it , it sounded more then what this guy offer'd to me...

I've never said anything about dyno tuning.

The flashers don't use a chip which don't fit all that well in the GEN 3 PCM slot anyway.

The programming techniques for both chip and flasher are the same as the same software is used.

I am not going to tell just exactly what I do as too many other people are wanting that information for themselves and I am in business to sell these not to give away free tuning advice to the competition.

That being said the A/F, timing, tranny parameters and a ~50 other things get changed.

ok i was just looking it is a plug and play unit it plugs into the obd II port and i tryed to find this out b4.. i was told i needed a dyno tune to use it.. the way its may'd on the web site that it has better programs for the pcm built in just that they can add a better tune... not that you have to get it but its better to so that your sho has its own set tune for you sho.. cuz not all cars are the same....

Well a dyno will allow you to log the critical parameters that will get the best tune for your car. This can be accomplished too driving on the road if you have the "right" local and have a device to log the parameters such as the SCT XCalibrator 2.

I usually suggest several WOT runs from a stop. Up to 100 mph if the conditions are correct. In urban environments this is difficult to do.

With a wide band, which you can get at a dyno usually, you will get accurate information of what your A/F ratio car is actually doing as compared to what is it being told to do. You can get WBO2s with a stick anywhere small LCD gauge for <$250.00 to install in your car and this too can be ported into the Xcal to log the A/F under all conditions.

so for the $399 i can get this flasher thing that i can plug and play and my sho will run better or you know w/e the tune is doing

and i wasnt trying to ask what you do just that hows it work...

but i understand now.. this is my next thing for my sho i think.. ill have to see how money works out...

I've always thought a wideband at the tailpipe was kinda silly on an emission controlled car, better than nothing when on the dyno, but the ratios should be taken with a grain of salt. They need to be up front on a bung before the cats to be truly accurate.

After all, what is the function of the Cataliytic converters? How can one obtain a fair reading after they cook everything?

From the Innovate expert on the Innovate Forums Klaus. Innovate makes the LC-1 and LM-1 WBO2 systems and others. I use the LC-1.

Original question......I put the wide band in one of the after cat O2 bungs. Any thoughts on what I should be seeing?

One of our customers is a manufacturer of high-flow cats. They use LM-1's and LC-1's in the lab to measure cat effectiveness. According to them it depends on the exact exh. gas composition, cat effectiveness, gas flow and cat temperature on how much the readings change pre/after cat. In some circumstances it can even read richer behind the cat, but in most cases leaner. By how much depends entirely on the above conditions.

I'm not a cat specialist. But I've seen that on some of the traces the above mentioned cat manuf. sent us. The pre/post cat readings read actually richer by about 0.2 AFR at some flow rates and cat temperatures when the used gas was equivalent to about 13.5 AFR.
