a/c's broken

And it's so hot out.

It's not freon, because I tried to add R-134A and the gauge said full. The compressor clicks on and the clutch spins, but then clicks off again, and then repeat. It's blowing hot air.

I'm going to take it in for a free diagnostic, but was wondering if anyone knows anything. I don't want to get screwed by the mechanic.

Might be either the high pressure or low pressure switch. Or you may not have enough or too much freon in the system.

I don't think it's too much, because it was working before I had put any in it. According to the gauge on the freon-putter-inner it's at the right amount.

Have you inspected the condensor by looking in behind the bumper? You'd be surprised how much crud gets crammed in there. Especially between the condensor and the radiator. A little cleaning really cools down the A/C.
