My 1990 SHO A/C does not work. I would like to fix it. the condenser is missing so I will obviously need that. all the lines and are rusted to **** so I would assume everything needs to be replaced given the age, rust, and exposure to the elements since the system has been open.

I was looking on rock auto pricing things out but I don't know the A/C system well enough to make sure i'm buying the correct things. The stuff I did price came close to a $1000 bucks. does that seem completely out of line?

I just had my A/C fixed. I took it to a guy by me who does honest work and is really good with A/C stuff. Put a little freon in it, tested the lines A-ok, but clutch would kick out after getting hot. He took it apart to put on a new clutch, but tried 4 clutches and non of them worked (maybe I have a weird clutch ). He did find it but for an arm and a leg, so I had him re-shimmed it, put it back together, and it works ok for now. It feels like it does slip sometimes, I'll notice the engine run a little funny while I'm driving with the A/C on.

That's probably what it will cost if you buy all new stuff. I'd suggest a junkyard run.... (I have some of the parts you need, but from a Gen2 - I don't know if they are the same - probably not...)
