Damage may or maynot be obvious. I purchased a 97 for a parts car. Car started and reved like nothing was wrong. Upon removing the cams to send off for welding I placed the cams on end and was amazed as two of the cam sprockets freely slid down and rested on the first cam lobe they encountered.

I would borscope the cylinders to check for damage. No need in tearing up something you can't get parts for. If you don't find any damage then remove (much cheaper) the cams and get them welded if you are not close to any of the recommended welders. Or trailer it.

Good Luck

Excuse for not knowing the internals of the SHO engine, but I found what looks to be the top part of a lifter (Shiny metal piece the cam lobe rides on). It was bent and sitting in the valley of the head. Nothing outside of this looks to be damaged, any thoughts as to what else might have been damaged that I cannot see, maybe valve?
Sounds like you chucked a valve shim, the valve that shim went to is likely bent and is likely the cam that failed.

I have removed the cams and going to get them welded next week. I ended up buying a front head/cam due to a shim flying off and damaging one of the cam buckets/cam and the head. With that said, how hard will it be to get the car into time? I have only installed cams in fox body mustangs. So after I disassembled I thought great, it has four cams how in the heck will I get this car in time. Any help with the steps would be a big help.

You need to have the front timing cover off. Very difficult to do in the car but it is doable.

Step 1: remove engine.
I dropped the whole subframe and drivetrain with mine.
Cam Indexing:
Check, Double Check, Tripple Check; Make sure that all of the Dark Chain Links on all three chains line up with the marks on the spockets!
The following is at #1 @ TDC on the Compression Stroke.
B347a554
Note: if you need to turn the engine to get to TDC do NOT rotate it with ANY of the cams installed!
