Do the 97 Continental brackets work for the 96+ brake upgrade? I've only seen people saying 95 Contis work, but not sure what other year Continental would be compatible as well.

Thanks

Be careful that the junkyard doesn't give you the wrong part. When I was doing my '96+ brake upgrade, I told the junkyard I wanted '95 Continental caliper brackets. They said no problem, but they had to pull them off the car. When I came back later that afternoon to pick up the brackets, they were the wrong ones, identical to the brackets on my '94 SHO, which won't work for the upgrade.

It has become clear to me that many junkyards and autoparts stores (AutoZone in particular) have errors in their databases with regard to '96+ SHO caliper brackets. They cross-reference the '96+ SHO brackets to be the same thing as the the brackets from my '94 SHO (which are also found on several other applications), and as we know, that is not correct.

The best advice I've heard so far on this is that you should make sure that the bracketa that you get for the '96+ upgrade have the casting number "FN74" stamped on them.

I know about the "FN74", but the closest junkyard I found with a 95 Continental is an hour drive away, where was a closer yard has a 96 and 97 Continental.

Just not sure if those will work.

I don't get why people buy junkyard brackets.

Kris, just get them from Josh. brand new, guaranteed to be the right part, and you are supporting SHOnut...

With the benefit of hindsight, I'd have to say I agree with this.

If your local yard has a few wrecked Gen III SHO's that you know about, then that's one thing, but otherwise, in my experience, it's not worth chasing around 96+ SHO caliper brackets at junkyards.

But Josh's price is some $160 Canadian plus shipping, a junkyard won't cost me more than $40 for the pair.
