i've got a 96 upgrade and stock 95 rears. it stops great, even with the incorrect (too small) pads. if you've got the money, bigger is always better in terms of brakes, but the 96 upgrade is definitely good. i also have brake bias plugs. i like the feel with them.

I am a little biased (pardon the pun) because we build the SHO lettered Stage 3 kits in 12" and 13".

We have run the 96 kit in the past, and it is a great street setup. Many of us tracked (road course) on the 96 kit, and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. That was until we ran a set of 12" or 13" Cobra PBRs.

The 13" Cobra PBR kit is a great value for the stopping power. Make sure everything is strapped down in your car because it will end up on the dashboard (or in the back of your head). You need 17" wheels (or the perfect 16" Team Dynamics rims) to run 13" brakes. so there can be an extra cost in wheels if you don't have them.

The 12" Cobra PBR kit costs more than the 13" kit, but it fits under slicers and most 16" wheels. The braking force of the 12" kit is only slightly less than the 13" kit, and it is lighter, so I think you pick up a little acceleration as a trade off.

96 rotors can warp, but I have yet to warp the 12" or 13" rotors. You also get a huge selection of pads with the Cobras you don't get with the '96 kit.

I have never ran the Stage 2 kit (Mustang GT over 10.2 rotors), but the smaller rotor worries me a bit.

Some people are running a Cobra caliper over an 11.6 rotor, which I think is better, but I am a little worried about warping the rotors under harder use.

I don't know if that helps. Personally, I am sold on the 12" or 13" kit. Everyone who has tried them would NEVER go back to the 96 kit, but if you only need a street set up, the 96 kit works great.

I'm not sure what other brake upgrades you are talking about, but the 96 is plenty for most people. Spend your money on good pads and good tires.

I have question to ask, I do understand what need for running cobra on 11.6 by machine the existing cobra bracket to relocate the bolt holes 0.7" further up. But to use the exact 12" rotor, what will I need to do? and where can I get 12" rotor? buy 13" and have it turn down to 12"?

Daily driver and autocross. I don't autox but I do drive pretty much like that on the streets. :bonk: Anyways, on my '93 I'm running 11.6s with carbotech pads and 89-92 vented rears with bias plugs. That being said, these brakes are not enough for me. I'm in the process of getting a 13" front kit. I have an 11.6 rear kit from shobros on the shelf but since my ABS is off I didn't think it was a good idea to put those on. I can already get the car sideways by going on the brakes hard around a corner.

SHOBros does offer the 12" kit that NW is talking about. It uses the 13" rotor machined down, do not confuse it with the 11.6 kit.

We are working with NW to offer the 11.6 Cobra kit.

what about the bracket....

I do understand the process of rotor bein turned down to 12" and I still haven't gotten the answer on what procedure be done to cobra caliper bracket in order to use 12" . Do the process of by machine the existing cobra bracket to relocate the bolt holes 0.7" further up apply as well for using 12" rotor? Thanks Paul.

Yes correct but it isnt quite .7 There is less maching done for the 12" kit verses the 11.6 for the bracket.

I have the 12.5" baer pbr's front and josh's 11.5" rear kit Its enough braking power but I always feel like I want more. Im not sure how tat kit compares to sho bros 12 or 13 inch kit im sure one of them will know and can probably give you a good idea.

The Bear 12.5 kit would be simialir to the 12" kit. Only the 13" kit would be better.

I have the 10.9" Stage II kit. While for daily driving it's great, and for some spirited driving or limited road course use, it's fine, it's not acceptable for extremely spirited or dedicated track use.

I can't comment on the 96 upgrade or the stage 3 upgrade, as I've yet to try either one.

Also keep in mind that sticky tires help alot on stopping better too.

Bob

EXACTLY!!!!

You can have 14'' rotors, and 12 piston calipers( )... but if you have some plastic wheels on there.... well...

a GOOD read.... i suggest if you want to upgrade your brakes, you read through this article....
