95 ATX 85K; The car shifts fine when cold or when it is not in stop and go traffic. When the engine reaches normal operating tempature the transmission begins to act a little funny. It does not present itself until I am waiting at a stop light for a minute or so. Once the light finally turns green I take off slowly and 1st gear does not shift to 2nd as fast as it should. When it does shift to 2nd it usually does it with a little buck to it. Continuing through acceleration the next few gears shift very quickly and firmly. This usually happens at a few lights and then goes away, I haven't had any other ATX problems and all is well unles I am in stop and go traffic. Can anyone suggest anything short of a rebuild?

I think your tranny's on the way out. You could try a transmission flush and some new high quality fluid (Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF?) Or try your favorite tranny elixir(Lucas Transmission Fix stuff)from your local auto store.

Could be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor or TSS (Turbine Speed Sensor). You can get to the TSS relatively easily with the driver's side wheel off, but the VSS is a bear to replace with the tranny still in the car. Do a search and you'll see what I mean.

However, I had similar problems, tried the flush and elixir it helped a little, but within a few months I ended up installing a Ford rebuilt tranny.

Good luck.
