Window on drivers side, goes up fine, but you have to tap it forever to get it to go down. I already changed out the switch panel on the arm rest. Any ideas?

Power window motor? I had to replace the one on the left rear passenger door, got the part from a local pick and pull for about $20, and it works great now.

Yeah, I was hoping it might be a switch or something easy.. Did you have to drill out the rivet and re rivet the motor in.? Looks like a PIA to switch out.

Nope, I didn't have to rivet anything. Hated tearing that plastic away to get to it, but after the door panel and plastic was off, it was fairly easy to swap the window motors. One other thing to look at are the metal arms that make the window go up and down. Might be a good idea to remove the door panel and **** all the window arm joints, and see if that helps. But hey, since you've got the door panel off anyway, might as well replace the window motor too, right?!

I'm not sayin' I have this thread bookmarked just for threads like these, but I totally have this thread bookmarked just for threads like these.

Fronts are not a whole lot more difficult than rears. You just need one of those long thin crowbars with the odd flat thing on the end that say "DON'T USE AS A CROWBAR" to pry the metal bracket back far enough to get the motor out.

I have parts car to pull the power window motor out of. I will take the door off later today and start the process of pulling the motor out. I will take some photos and post it later if it all goes to plan.

make sure you remove old grease and add new grease when you install, from my experience 90% of the time its the grease that causes the issues

Maybe I should just try new grease? Could it just be as simple as that?

Hawkeye - I read thru the thread that you posted a few months ago, but decided it would be MUCH easier to just replace the power window motor on my left rear door. I wasn't going to take the stock motor apart and try to clean it and such like you showed in your post. Luckily for me, there's a Pick and Pull in Virginia Beach, which is about 20 miles away from me, and they usually have lots of Taurus' (Taurii?!) to pull a power window motor from. I got one for $20, and took me about 30 minutes to swap them out.

But for someone who would have difficulty getting a replacement power window motor, your thread is pretty good as a step-by-step how-to on cleaning the old motor. I agree with others though, start simple and go from there (i.e. check the metal arms for binding/lubing; check the window switch; clean/replace the window motor).

I have used Hawkeye's thread to rebuild the rear passenger's motor before. Once spring rolls around I'll probably do the rest. It's really not hard at all, and with Hawkeye's thread as a guideline it was a pretty quick repair at that. Why spend money if you don't have to?
