Hey everyone, I've got a little dilemna with my '93 SHO atx. It has 100K miles on it, but recently the tranny has been shifting really hard between 1st and 2nd gears. I took it to my local Ford dealer where I had a brand new tranny installed. Driving it around now, the same hard shift happens between 1st and 2nd gear. I was wondering if any of you have encountered this problem...? Could it be an ECU problem? I live in Portland, OR and if someone could help me with troubleshooting with the driveline or could suggest a shop in the northwest who might be able to help, please send that info this way. Thanks.

I have the same problem. I had a new trans put in (reman)and clutch made by Luk, it still shifts kinda hard. Now when i am in gear i hear a ticking noise. In all gears and all speeds. I push the clutch in and stops clicking? I have no clue. shrug

At any rpm, I get pretty much the same shift on 1-2. My next guess is a computer problem, if anybody could possibly verify that or may know what's going on, please post. lol

There's a possibility that it's your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), which is mounted in-line with the speedometer cable housing. If you have a Chilton's for your car (highly valuable and recommended), flip to chapter 7 for tranny procedures, or search the SHO Forum for tips on how to get at it.

I had the same problem and had the VSS replaced however this did'nt solve the problem. It turned out to be the TSS-turbine speed sensor it went at around 100,000 miles. Check your codes you should have a stored code for it. Does it gradually get worse as your running temp. gets higher mine would start the hard shift after 10 minutes or so of driving. The Ford part # is F1DZ*7M101*A and was $24.29 at the dealer which is the only place that had one that was'nt online.Justb make sure they dont sell you a VSS, that controls your OD and cruise control and is 40 something dollars. Installation is pretty easy. It is just above the drivers side halfshaft on the tranny block. One small hex screw holds it in, go thru the wheel well w/ a 1/4" drive and a flex ext. Once you remove the screw it just pulls out w/ a little encouragment.
