My 93 ATX has a problem when it is started. Most of the time there aren't any problems, but about a quarter of the time when it is started it just doesn't want to stay started. When it happens, it runs roughly and I have to step on the peddle to keep it running after a minute of running it goes back to normal. I've also been smelling a lot of fuel fumes coming from the car.

I pulled these codes from the car

Engine off codes:

332- EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly - EVR or PFE (sounds like I probably have clogged nostrils from reading previous posts)

336- PFE sensor signal is/was was high - ">PFE (I have no idea what the PFE is)

556- Fuel pump relay primary circuit fault - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits (fuel pump works from what I can tell, but this code keeps coming up)

646- Transmission 2nd gear failure - Transmissions (second gear has issues and is on it's way out)

Engine on codes:

167- No Throttle Position sensor change in "goose" test (I did press the gas pedal down during test and got this code 2 times, but I possibly didn't press it hard enough)

225- Knock sensor not tested (ignore if not pinging)

Can someone give me a hand with these codes?

Diagnose and repair your fuel pressure problem.

That means a fuel pressure gauge.

My 89 suffered similar symptoms as the pump died.

I did a fuel pressure test today and here's what I got:

key on engine off- 33psi
key on engine on- 30psi
WOT- 38psi
unplugged pressure regulator- 40psi

I did clean out the EGR nostrils today. They were completely clogged up, could this have been the cause of the rough idle???

I'll do that next. Sometimes I go for a whole day without any problems, some days I don't even get one good start. I actually tried starting the car a bunch of times to get a rough start today and couldn't get one. Thank you.

I met up with another SHO owner today and it just happened to run roughly. So I grabbed him and pulled him over to my car, and he told me to clean out my MAF. I just cleaned it out. I'll just have to wait and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, my 89 did that to me for weeks. I finally got lucky and caught it in the act with the pressure gauge while in the driveway and confirmed the loss of FP function.

I had a look at the MAF and it didn't look dirty at all. I cleaned it real good anyway, and that didn't fix the problem.

I cleaned out the IAB and the MAF really well and that seemed to care of the problem from what it looks like so far. We'll just have to wait and see it I have any more problems.
