I was driving home yesterday morning when as soon as I turned on the parkway near Catholic U, my car started losing power. The hand was on empty but not all of the way. I pull over to the side of the road and my engine gives out. I get about a gallon of gas from the station, the car starts with a lot of jerking I managed to get a block from my house when it gave out again. I then get 2 more gallons of gas from the local station. This time I notice white smoke rising from the engine and exhaust. Now every time I try to start the car it tries to turn over before it gives out and smoke pours out. I put some dry gas in the tank but nothing changes. Not sure what next to do.

It seems to be coming from near the back or top of the engine. I do have an exhaust leak. I tried again to start it this morning, the engine turned over but would not stay on. I spoke to a Ford tech over the phone and he mentioned that it could be the fuel pump but I can hear it when I turn the key.

Check fuel pressure! Just because it comes on doesn't mean it has enough fuel. If that checks out ok then back to basics; spark and air. Keep us posted!

so white smoke from the top rear of the engine is usually oil from the leaky valve cover gasket getting on the exhaust manifold or cat - while that needs to be taken care of, its not likely related to why the car doesn't run.

Unless, the spark plug wells are so full of oil that the wires/plugs are shorting out. pull a couple plug wires off and report what you find - full of oil or relatively dry?

Still unable to start the engine. It has been down for so long that the battery's now dead. I was unable to get it looked at due to my financial struggle over the summer but now I will be able to put it in the shop. I don't have the tools or the know how to do much checking myself. Whenever I describe the issue with a mechanic, I either hear that it's the fuel pump or a valve (and in that case the car is done.) I will have it towed to the local service station for them to look at it this weekend.

Would I need to replace the whole engine if it is?

Turns out to be a broken Piston ring, so that's the end of that car. I had it less than a year too and I loved driving it. Now I have to get a new car...
