Will the PCM even cycle injectors properly with intake & numerous connections missing?

Yes. Ive had my intake pulled and had the dis plugged back in and grounded, then took the Coil's connector off (so it wouldnt start) and had my brother turn the car over to watch the Injectors fire.

You'd better figure out a way to keep the injectors in the rail, because as soon as you pressurize the rail the injectors will pop off the rail. As an alternative, you can make up your own individual injector tester with a fuel pump of any sort, and your injector.

I agree. I tested one on mine [Mustang] by just putting a hose over the input of injector with hose and screwclamp and pressurize. Maurice

The injectors take a direct 12v correct - I don't need to step down the voltage to do the single-injector test?

Nope. 12 volts all the time and ground the other non-red wire when you want to fire it off. Tap each injector upside down on a clean white paper towel to see if the screen is clogged up. If you get anything out, don't use that injector before you get it serviced.

Throw a can of Berryman's B-12 in your gallon of gas and it will clean out any build-up around the spray holes.

Spent last week getting the stock "D" type ICRM/CCRM hooked up in place of my custom one. Reviewed all my ignition wiring. Ready for test run #3.

OK, got around to test run this morning. I still don't have a throttle cable hooked up, so I set the idle at 2000rpm so the motor can warm up.

Here's the video.

Also did another video with the idle set down to 1000 rpm.

Looks like I got me a running SHO motor.

OK, now for the weird stuff. I started with the X2J PCM for these two tests on video, then I checked the codes. Still the same 26, 51 ,95 ,65.

Then I plugged in the the B9B1 I got from Tom. Ran fine, but still got CEL. Pulled the codes and got: 22, 52, 85 - not the same codes. Does that indicate what I'm seeing for codes are all continuous memory codes stored in the PCMs?

I don't know how long the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) will keep a stored code. They might be stored in an area that is not volatile at all. I'd erase them anyway and re-read.

Tom, I've tried all the reset methods I can find.
  • Let the codes repeat until finished to clear
  • Pull the bridging wire from the DLC while codes are flashing
  • Unplug the Batt - for more than 5 minutes - more like days

Still no luck clearing the codes. Did I miss something?

Hmm... The X2J should produce 3 digit codes correct?

Good question. I've understood they are 2-digit. The documentation I've been directed to indicates both 2 & 3-digit codes for the EEC-IV units. Like to know for certain though.

I Always pull the jumper wire. Ive had the best results with that method.

Ive always gotten 3 digit codes from mine. :oogle:

the X2J is a 92 computer, and 92-95 computers should spit out 3 digit codes.

the B9B1, as i understand it, is a 90 computer, and 89-91 computers will spit out 2 digit codes.

Gerard,

Describe how you are getting the codes. Are you using a code reader or counting flashes of the Check Engine Light?

Awesome glad to see running. I guess the IRCM has more in it than I understand. Maurice

Tom, I'm using the flashing light method. So on the X2J I got the following:
1 2 6 5 1 9 5 6 5 and the cycle repeats. So we arrived at 26, 51, 95, & 65 for the codes. But you're suggesting the codes should be 126, 519 & 565 - correct?

On the B9B1 I got:
2 2 5 2 8 5 2 2 5 2 8 5 1 1 1 and repeats again
