Good 1. I didn't know. When it comes by me all I see is the inside of the passenger side doors. Production is good, problem is they can't get the parts fast enough. Vendors can't keep up. Knowing that, they still increased production this week. And we will keep this pace til November

Taurusbuilder,

How do you increase production if you don't have enough parts for your existing levels?

And if you could ask one of your brothers or sisters on the X line about the rear inflatable seatbelts, I would be thankful. As I hear differing statements if their produced yet with them as the option.

Thanks

Unless something has changed, all the literature I have seen and the Ford website and the ordering guide show the seat-belts as a late availability.

Where have you seen that the rear seatbelt-airbags are a standard option?

I stand corrected. When the Explorer media drive was going on last summer, I swear they said it was going to be std and on every one, but Ford's site also says:

*Available feature. Available early 2011.

The Build and Price shows you have to get at least an XLT with the midlevel pkg to even get it as an option too. That's dumb IMO. For $200, it really should be a std feature considering it's a pretty important safety innovation. I think who ever orders them without and has small kids is basically saying $200 is more important to them than their children's safety.

The number seems high, but compare it to the cost of a Taurus now and a Taurus 10 years ago?

I think MSRP of a DOHC SE was around 24K.

The MSRP on my 1997 Taurus LX was 24k loaded with everything but leather.
That car is still in the family and looks as good as it did on day one, amazing.

We had a 1998 Taurus Wagon that had 228,000 miles and still looked good and ran great...until my son had a small 4 car accident with it:frown: We also have a 99 Mercury Sable with 190,000 miles that my wife uses as her daily driver for work, and it still runs pretty good and really doesn't look bad for all it's been through. Our experience with the Taurus/Sable family have all been pretty positive.

Good endorsement. This Taurus will be my first, tho I've had just about all other Ford products and been just as happy with them.
I'm hoping this one is as good.

That's a million question! What they do is run without the parts and stick them in a parking lot til the parts come in and pay the extra greedy people like me double time on a Sunday to fix it

LOL

In other words they are out of "heater cores" for an example but they still install the engine and the dash.

And then you can stand out in 15 degree weather with snow up to your knees ripping out the dash to install the heater core?

Makes perfect sense to me... NOT!!

Why not just ship the car to the dealer, freight the part to them and let them install it where they have all the tools, lifts, light and heat :)

And have you heard if the X's have the rear seatbelt air bag being installed yet?

If you haven't guessed I just ordered a 11 X today.

I just found out the rear inflatable seatbelt option on the new Explorer is available to order at the dealer as of today, (3/21/2011) and are Option code 90R.

Hi Typhoon,

I was told they were available after 3/1/11

I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago with that option and there was no flag or block.

I also read on another board that Ford has said they have run out of AWD parts for the Taurus and the X for orders after 3/10. And that they will be available for 2012 MY

I can't believe that either. They can't get parts for 4 more months.

Does Greg know anything about that?

Here was the post;

03/11/11

All Manufacturers

Ford
US only Ford MY2011 Taurus, Edge, Flex, Escape, Explorer with AWD/4x4 orders balanced out date of 3/09/11. Demand for these vehicles and body styles have exceeded supply. Ford is making every effort to build orders received on and prior to 3/09/11 and will continue to accept will-try orders placed on 3/10 or after. Customers with orders placed that receive the balance out message will be advised. Ford anticipates these options will be available for the start up of MY12.

How about no. Its bad enough to fix them when they break I dont want to finish building them to.

I just quoted what the Ford dealer website posted up yesterday. Maybe there were regional exceptions for some reason?

Also, 2012MY might not be too far away. The 2012MY Focus' and Mustangs are already on dealer lots, so they may not wait until the typical summer season to make the changeover. (don't ask me why 2012s are out so soon, cause it doesn't make sense to me either. I know that the very first Job 1 2012 Focus' were made in December 2010! Can you believe that?).

I'm not familiar with the current Mustang line up. However the totally redesigned 2012 Focus is expected to launch any day.

That was wide spread knowledge. Hence the 2-3K rebates on an 2011 Focus.

As of today Chicago Assembly Plant is 88k doers behind schedule. 46k of those orders are Explorers and the rest are Taurus. We literally can't make these vechicles fast enough. Not only that, the vendors can't keep up. They have decided to send us home for a few days to catch up. Lol. They have to pay us regardless. I expect us to be working again 2morw
Do you know the current build status in Chicago for the Taurus? I placed an order on March 25 for a SHO and still no word on a build date. Thanks

I would think you will be waiting a few months longer. Shogun ordered his SHO 21 Dec. 2010 and heard that it was to be delivered the week of March 21...still waiting, the car has yet to show at his dealer. Dealer also claims that he can't find any info on the car. Good luck.
