I’m expecting my Tinker Electronics dash Wednesday. I found that I’ll be able to make a boot up image to appear. Just messing around right now but I’ll do something like this. The idea here is the SHO letters are titanium after a pull, heat distorted. I’m going to keep messing with this. Maybe add 2 turbos. Haha this is fun. Can’t wait to turn the car on and the dash comes alive with this messageA0D5D833 4461 4A07 BA64 198456D04D99

I just got this Tinker 10” dash V2 today and my BOOT image didn’t load I think I had the resolution at 1020x600px and it’s supposed to be 1024x600px, JPEG. Can’t be anything else on the mini SD card so I deleted everything and didn’t work my first try.

I had to do some wiring, David from Tinker Electronics left the power feed out of the OBD2 harness so I could get switched 12 volts and leave it plugged in and have the screen shut off when the car is off without unplugging it. I tried fuse 27 under the dash and it was constant…I’ll try the radio next. Or tomorrow.

I really like this premade screen here. You can see I changed every parameter to the right is fuel related. And vitals on the left. MAP is boost.

The screen is huge haha! I’ll have to come up with something to mount it properly. I love it. I need to get David to allow me to add gear to this screen and it’ll be perfect.

The snag with making a custom screen is it’ll just be digital readings. No functional gauges. So I’d have to essentially make a HUD almost like a board game..it could look like gauges and functional but just the live data will be digital.

There’s all kind of shift lights to set, colors, warnings, set parameter ranges…it’s pretty cool. Something I’ll nerd out too for hours haha IMG 8283IMG 8286IMG 8285

I like the display how cute you can call it the 'SHO-and-Tell' or the 'Drew-Dash'. Lastly for the kids 'Andy-Commandy' lol
Jeez I was thinking badass, cute? Shit, this isn’t Disney. I don’t want kids touching my car. lol

I won’t be naming this other than digital dash, I think that’s what it’s called

Dash is 90% done. Just some tweaking to do and finishing touches. IMG 8308IMG 8318
David is going to try to find gear tomorrow remotely signing in. Supposed to call him with my laptop and car ready. Before cutting up the plastic bezel I bought a used one off EBay for $38 shipped lol. Soon as I bought another one I started cutting mine up.

Quick update on the Tinker V2 10” dash. It’s not working properly. The issue right now is that the dash powers up perfectly, boots normally, looks great, sees CAN traffic, but no live PCM data is populating. The layouts stay at 0. David at Tinker has honestly been excellent through this. He responded on a Sunday night, spent about an hour and a half remotely troubleshooting with me, and stayed in full problem-solving mode the whole time. No dodging, no excuses, no defensive attitude, just genuinely trying to conquer it.

We also tested it on my 2021 Raptor and got the same result, so that was a big help because it ruled out this being something unique to my SHO alone. As of now it seems like this is either a Ford-specific communication/protocol issue or a rare case of a bad unit itself, meaning the dash may not actually be making the requests even though it powers up and sees bus traffic. Another important detail is that this is definitely a first for him with the Taurus SHO platform. He told me he usually sees Mustangs, so as far as I can tell this is probably the first 2010 SHO he has dealt with on one of these. I mentioned the Gateway module but he already knew about it.

My next move on my end is to test it on my girlfriend’s 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That should tell me pretty quickly whether this is Ford-specific or if the unit itself has a hardware issue. One more thing I may try before I hear back from David on next steps is adding ground to pin 5 on the OBD side. Right now it is grounded on pin 4 only. Pin 5 is signal ground. Usually a lot of devices work fine without both, so I’m not saying that is definitely the problem, but it is one more variable I can eliminate easily.

David has even said more than once that if this gets overwhelming or turns into more than I want to deal with, he would give me a full refund. I told him there is no way I’m giving up on this dash because I love it already and I’m confident we are going to get it working. He seems just as determined as I am to make it work on my car, which I respect a lot.

So that’s where it stands. Screen itself is awesome, support has been excellent, issue is still being worked through, and I’m continuing to help narrow it down from my side as well. Once it’s working and sorted out, I’m going to make a short cold start video and post it here.

The dash works! I tested it on the Jeep and it didn’t work. I then decided to go into settings and change the mode. It’s preset to Generic. I’ve looked at other options and there’s only one option. GM mode 22. I figured f it, switched it to GM mode 22 and saved it. Nothing. Damn. Was getting ready to message David it doesn’t work on the Jeep too. I went back into settings and put it back on Generic mode and saved it. Started working immediately. I sent David a video and he said does it work on anything else?

I hooked it up to the SHO and it works! David has never seen this happen before. They test the screens before shipping and preset them to Generic. I said yeah it was on Generic this whole time until I switched it to GM Mode 22, saved it, then switched back to Generic and saved it. He said then there’s a bug with the mode. It was stuck in GM Mode 22 the whole time so the PCM ignored its requests. This whole build is an edge case.

David said he had a feeling about the mode and was in the process of creating a test to delete GM Mode 22 but it would tell him if it’s in that mode immediately but I beat him to it. I said man, I’m glad I’m competent enough to help as a customer bc 2 years ago I’d be a deer in headlights this whole time. He laughed and said yeah you did good.

I’m going to prepare a list of must have PID’s and tomorrow David will remote in and ping the PCM to give them to me. So pumped! Gear #1 and David said that’s mandated to be available and he has 3 prompts to use to get it to reveal it. Trans temp didn’t populate so that’s one. I said it’ll just be 6-8 PID’s I’ll make a list and we can dig for them tomorrow. Maybe 4-6 idk.

Success!

I sent this list. He warned me some could be hard to find. Ford doesn’t offer a list and access can get expensive.

1: Gear actual
2: IAT2 (it’s listed but I didn’t get a chance to see if it works. Can test?
3: fuel rail pressure (high pressure)
4: torque source
5: trans temp (option but didn’t populate)
6) WGDC%

You good sir have absolutely taken that proverbial baton, and not only ran with it, but are blazing trails of your own.

Inspirational to say the least.

So very cool to see you, as a customer, not only helping the vendor, but also your fellow SHO family (for the small amount of us goons) that wanna keep moving the platform forward.

Just cool a.s.s. $.h.i.t
