So I just got my 75mm MAF from SHOSource today and put it in as I was suspecting that my stock unit was going bad. Well let me just say holy crap I forgot how much torque steer this car has!:woo-hoo: My car has come back to life with this thing! :thankyou:So while I had it out I decided to take a side by side shot for future reference.

I've been meaning to pick one up. Car runs fine with it being the calibrated plug-n-play MAF?

yeah I reset idle just cuz the old one was screwing it up so bad but the car now idles great and drives fine. The only thing odd is I had to seal up the 3 holes in the air box that the old one bolted down with but some 5 minute epoxy did the trick.
The biggest difference that I can tell is when my secondaries open I don't get the change in engine tone like it used to, but I could really careless about that

I've been kinda skeptical of these MAF's. I know the 75mm sho-source one's say you don't need tuning, but does anyone have dyno charts to sho the difference in power?
edit: gas milage differences as well?

Why doesn't the 75mm have an air straightener in it?

You don't allways have to have a straightener. This design for instint is meant for a cone filter at the end. The cone filter will straighting the air. If you where to extend a tube before the MAF then a straightener becomes a very good idea.

SHO source has most likely worked with the company to get a stock tune.

Dynoing the car with a tweecer would twick it perfect, but its no different then when ford dropped the 55 MAF unit in there. Ford programmed all the computers the same, all the v6 SHO's had the same intake, dropped their 55mm unit in, therefore consistency. People could benefit from twicking the stock 55mm unit believe it or not.

In the case of this 75mm MAF, its programmed to work in the SHO.

well I don't have any plans to dyno my car, but I just filled up today so give me about a week and I'll report back on gas mileage.

Glad you like the MAF :thankyou:.

To answer the other questions in the thread: The SHO Source MAF is tuned for the stock MAF curve as a drop in replacement. We have had excellent success with these MAFs. A few years back we did a dyno day and did a pull on a car with no mods other than the Y-pipe. He then did a second pull with the Pro-M MAF (I think the PMAS does better than Pro-M). He picked up 12hp on a heat soaked engine if my memory serves. If anyone with a PMAS wants to do a before/after dyno comparison, we will put the data up on the site.

is that 75mm made special for the sho or is there a car i can steal one off. $210 plus shipping is alittle too much for my budget.

gne3 sho's use a 80mm. most current v6 fords like the contour/cougar/taurus duratec have 70 or 75mm's

It's for most OBD I Fords. I've seen Foxes with them as well.

In regards to MAFs, I picked up a bunch of hp by switching to an 80mm on my 3.3. No more breathing through a straw.

This MAF is calibrated for the SHO. There are other MAFs out there like the Lincoln 80mm, Gen3 80mm, Lightning, etc, but none are calibrated for the SHO. If you want to use one, you would need to use a TwEECer or LPM to reprogram the computer to match the MAF.

This MAF is still probably the least cost way to go to a larger MAF since you do not need to buy an LPM or TwEECer.

The improvement in torque could simply have to do with that the 75mm MAF has
1) clean and functioning MAF connectors, and
2) clean MAF sensor element.

Stock MAFs are notorious for connector problems and if you've been using oiled filters, you're not unlikely to have soiled up the MAF element at some point. Only the most careful of owners do NOT over oil their air filters.

IMO, the 75mm MAF looks like it would discourage accurate measurement of flow due to the lack of venturi inlets and such. In fact, it seems to have been made in the most crude and cheapest possible way and certainly disregards any concern for air flow.

maybe i wasnyt being specific enough when i said are they compatible. what i meant was are the ones for the contour/cougar/taurus duratec mafs that are 70-75mm compatible. if they are i think that would be my best bet if not then i have to think of a plan b

FWIW I have ran three different MAFs and with all three the car ran 14.3's. (73C&L, stock, Pro-M 80mm)
The highest trap was a C&L 73 but the weather was also perfect 45 degrees.

The stock MAF will flow the air. so IMO unless u have a tweecer the MAF could wait until other mods are put in.

MAF looks great though.
