The Local ford dealer gave me a ball park # of $1300 for a Lower 60k.

That seems like alot of cash to drop a subframe and change the seals. :frown: If I really want to drive the Gen2 thru the winter and Get the Gen3 project advanced further durring storage, then I must get this Smoking Oil problem fixed :frown:

Advice: ?

I really dont want to put $1300 into the Gen2 because it has too much rust to continue dumping money into. So do you see my delema? I really dont want the Gen3 to rust away too, I wont let that happen! :thumb:

you could do it yourself for the price of the front main seal and any other parts that need replacing... The subframe does not have to be dropped. If you choose to do it yourself, with our help of course, it would be way cheaper. if you want to do a full FRONT 60K, the only things that need to be replaced ar the following:
Front main seal,
water pump is a good idea and can be had cheap from Napa. Especially if you don't want to get in there again,
you can replace the crank position sensor, but it's working, so I wouldn't. I didn't...,
timing belt and accessory belts if needed. Most likely a timing belt at the very least, since it has to come off anyway. It's good insurance so you don't have to "tear" her open again.

Of course, it's up to you, but if it was me, I'd do it myself and only replace the water pump, front main seal and the timing belt and maybe the accessory belts, depending on what shape they were in. With the help chronicled here, and on Joshua Langevin's site, http://www.shophoenixproject.com/ it wouldn't be that hard, just time consuming. 1,300 is a little steep, when the parts are only $100 to $200. Keep in mind, the dealer will charge you out the @$$ for more than you need. Hence the name, STEALership... ;)

half-way there, I think.
Anytime you walk into a dealership's service bay and mention SHO, you are gonna be looking at a bunch of $$$ for anything.

Not to mention the fact that the person working on your SHO has probably never seen one. Also patience is required when working on them and that is not usually a virtue of theirs............

as their slogan says..................pay more, get less :frown:
