Because they're 'touring' tires, not 'high/max performance' tires.

If you drive your SHO under normal conditions, no hard cornering, they'll probaly be a good tire. Maybe not as sticky either, under hard acceleration, as high/max performance tires.

Take a look at the Supra 712's, if your looking for a better tire and reasonable price.

BTW I've seen reviews on the Supra's and there's claims of people getting 30k-40k miles out of the tires. Although, there is some that claim to get no more than 20k.

I may need to disagree with this. My Ecsta 712's are showing heavy wear at about maybe 11k miles. I drive the snot out of these tires. I say they are about half-worn. I will not be buying another set as we have winter here frown

The V700 is Khumo's DOT comptetition race tire for road race/auto-x. They are very sticky, and have great grip, but like any other comp. tire they don't last. I got about 6-7 track events out of my set.

Guys, i have the 711's on my ZX3. for starters, i've never lost traction under any hard driving. they're H-rated, but I've never went 120 mph so I dont need Z's. they have good traction and the treadware is great. i have 205/40/R17's and they've been on for 18,000 mi and they still have at least 75% tread. I believe the treadware rating on mine are 320, which isnt that bad for a 40 series tire. I love the Kumho 711's and as soon as mine wear out, I'll buy another set.

Back in Michigan ... again.
I have about 14k on my Supra 712's and they're pretty well worn; I may be able to eck out another 5k but that would be it. Plus my left rear tire is well and truely cupped...my bad I guess, should've rotated them sooner.

I've been pretty ******* these tires though, a couple open track events, a couple autocrosses, a couple drag strip events, and several hundred high speed clover leaf freeway ramps :D No, they aren't a snow tire but I park my SHO for the winter anyway. They are however the best rain tire I've ever had, as well as the best dry tire. These things just grip and grip and just when you think they're going to let go the grip harder. When they do give up it's progressive; you have lots of warning and plenty of time to take corrective measures before you get really out of shape.

These aren't an all season tire but then again I don't drive my SHO in the snow anyway and at $68 a piece for 225/50VR-16's you can't beat the price! Yes they wear pretty quickly if you drive hard but I'll be buying another set when my current set finally gives out thumb

And on a side note--keep in mind that speed ratings aren't just about maximum safe speeds for a tire. They indicate the stiffness of a tire, and for a good handling tire that's important. A Z rated tire is good for what 168+MPH? We'll never go that fast but the superior stiffness of the sidewall will make that tire much stronger and less prone to rolling over under hard cornering. Of course the trade off is ride quality, but hey if I want a car that rides good I'll go buy a big caddy :D

Speed ratings can mean that a tire has a different compound, belt construction, or can be manufactured differently. It could be one factor, it could be many. It all depends on the type of tire.

Treadwear is a very tricky and inconsistent factor unless you are talking about models of tires within 1 brand. I've seen 400 treadwear tires last 30,000 miles and 180 treadwear last for the same. When comparing different brands it's almost worthless.

And those F1 GS D3s were going to go on my 16"s as I made my way to Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I couldn't go and had to cancel the order.
