OK . . . I have a real problem. My SHO appears to be eating Starters. It seems every year, at about the middle of July, the starter starts giving me trouble. It has a hard time truning the engine over, le dash light flicker and what not, like it is a battery problem, but the battery checks out OK, and replacing the starter seems to fix the issue, at least for about a year. Well here is year 4 and once again the starter is beginning to struggle, I was hoping somebody could sheld some light as to what is causing this problem, it can't be another starter could it? Oil covered connections? Anything? Help?

It isn't your car's fault. It is the quality of the remaned starters. It took me 4 autozone starters untill I had one that lasted more than 4 months. Hopefully 4 is your magic number also.

Ok . . . so a couple votes for crappy starters, and one for chaning the wires . . . on the 93 what wires need to be replaced . . . power back to the battery and a chassis ground?

I say its likely oil draining into the starter and on the connections during oil changes. Sounds IDENTICAL to the oil issues I had starter would creap and it took a few tries to get it to fire.

Absolutley. I have went through a few myself. You have to hang or tape a rag over the starter when changing your oil. Get too much on the solenoid wires or the exposed bare wire and the thing won't conduct right leading to failure. Or the oil could even leak into the solenoid causing failure. Ever since I addressed the oil problem, I have never had a starter go bad. It seems that here is no way to not get it oil the starter during filter change.

just take a peice of cardboard from the box for the oil quarts, rip it to an appropriate size, crease it into a bit of a 'v', and slide it inbetween the starter and the oil filter flush to the block. drains itself right where you want it to; no fuss, no muss.

I relocated the oil filter on my 95 after 3 reman'd starters ate it. It was an easy job and cheap (parts were $40 or so at summit) but I still had 2 more starters go before I sold it.

The last one in was an Oriley's unit and it seemed fine. I've had 3 Duracrap starters, the original, and one Autolite "premium". I say get a used starter and have a local place rebuild it. They usually do a better job.

Wow! that's nice... I hope it wont have any affect on oil pressure though. Where are you relocating to? closer to the radiator?
I recieved the relocation kit without finding a place to put it first, and for a while I was worried that I would need to ship it back, I just could not find anywhere to put it. I was originally geared to have it so it was pointing straight down. I found that it would be nearly impossible. I also learned that there is really no place to put it on a stock SHO... other than here...

It has been SO hot here that I havent had the motivation to take any pictures of it until now, and I would only bear the heat to take what I could with the car on the ground.

It is mounted to what I believe is the cruise control bracket and that is attached to the subframe. PM if you want details.
