I noticed when looking for my radiator leak 3 coolers under the car...

1) radiator
2) long one in front of radiator
3) small square shape cooler.

What are the other two for?

Also how hard is it to install a tranny cooler and where do you mount it? Midwest sho has a "heavy duty" unit rated at 20k is this a good option to pursue?

Thanks.

#2 is the trans cooler.
#3 is the power steering cooler.

from what i have seen its just cutting the lines, taking the old one out, putting the new one in.... but you have to have tube line cutter.
im not sure on the install part, maybe someone with an atx can help you.
hope i helped though. good luck with the install.

Assuming you have an ATX, it's not all that hard, just a little time consuming.

If you have an MTX, a trans cooler CAN be rigged up, but you'll also need an external pump, since the MTX fluid is static & just stays in one contained area - there's no forced circulation. You also won't need to even think about one on an MTX unless you're doing track events with a Quaife, typically.

the long cooler in front of the radiator is not the transcooler. assuming its an ATX the transcooler is inside the radiator. The cooler in front of the radiator is the ac condenser.

All ATX SHOs have an external trans cooler in front of the radiator. I think its cycled through the radiator too to help it warm up.

From your name, SHOnuff93, I am assuming you have a '93, which does not have an external tranny cooler....however, the '94 and '95 SHO's do have an external cooler, mounted in front of the radiator and AC condenser. This was added because the '93's were cooking trannys.

That's partially correct. Ford issued a TSB about the cooler and started adding them late for the 93 model year.

Ok let me clarify so you guys can clarify for me!

Its a 94 ATX

Ok so the small cube unit is the power steering cooler? Its kind of beat up from rocks, and the lone thin unit is a tranny cooler? Should I up grade? If so to what and how?

Thanks again guys.
