i cant seem to figure out why, but my new timing tensioner started making less than normal noises after about 300 miles after being replaced, ever since then it sounds like a shallow chirp coming from it and increases when i rev, after about 4000 rpm i cant hear it anymore. is it possible i purchased a faulty timing tensioner, is there and way i could try re packing the bearing behind the seal?

Not the tensioner. It's the timing belt. Let me guess, it's a Dayco or some other Italian made belt. Won't go way unless you replace the belt. And I recommend you find a US made one like Cloyes.

Another thing to be concerned with is when that noise is present, there's a pretty good chance of breaking the tensioner stud. BTDT.

Dude it's not the tensioner. The Dayco belts are notorious for producing the whining sound. If you're going back in do yourself a favor and buy a different belt. One that's not made in Italy. Believe me you'll be happy.

I use Cloyes exclusively. Don't hear any noises and it's smooth. Find a US made belt.

I racked my brains out trying to cure the whining. Changed everything from sprockets to tensioners and the only constant on there was a crappy Dayco belt. Changed it out to a Cloyes which I lucked out and got from Rockauto on closeout for 6 bucks. Best money I ever spent.

I popped the cover off where the timing tensioner is, and I saw some red dust? When I had everything apart a month ago there was no sign of possible crank cancer, and my crank bolt was plenty tight. Hope this isnt crank cancer..

That's possibly a bearing on one of the front tensioners. The dust I have no idea.

So it turns out that I have crank cancer, got the parts ordered to fix it and should be up and running again in about a week
