Hello Sho Forum!

I am looking to do a complete audio upgrade and wanted to start with getting power ran from the battery. My SHO is a 2018 non pp. I’ve had aftermarket audio systems before but I’ve never been the person to drill through the firewall.

I started looking around the interior and under the hood for a spot. There is a lot of stuff under the dash! I snapped a picture where I’m thinking right now but I had a hard time seeing what was on the other side under the hood. Right between my fingers. Will probably do a 0 awg power run.

Where did you come through the firewall? Can you share a picture? Am I making a mistake wanting to drill here? There is a lot of plastic covering up the bare metal under the dash.

Thanks

I thought there was a better pass-through somewhere... wait for someone else to respond. There's nothing on the passenger side ?

I didn’t get a chance to look on the passenger side due to my small garage. I will check that out soon! Thanks!

I believe there is a factory wire harness and a grommet under neath the wiper cowl on the drivers side. A few people have used it. On my 2014 Taurus I went through the fire wall not knowing about the grommet in the cowl. It was left of the brake pedal, There’s a spot it will come out on the right side of the master cylinder. There is a video on YouTube showing this process. It definitely looks like you have more plastic in the way down there.

Thanks for the information raging bull. I found the area and cut some of the plastic off. I found the area and realized what a pain it was going to be to try and get a good seal here. I couldn’t find a way to reach the other side easily from the engine bay side. There is just too much stuff in the way.

I started looking around more and found someone went through a location on the passenger side for the sunroof drain. I looked under the passenger side and didn’t look long, there was a lot of covers in the way. Here is where I found that information. https://www.taurusclub.com/threads/1-0-awg-power-wire-through-firewall.286953/. Also, it mentioned the wiper cowl trick.

I was looking around on the web more and think I’ve found the way I’m going to run the power wire. I saw this thread here: https://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=7929.0. It involves going into a grommet that is located under the wiper cowl. I think it’s time to order some parts :)

I saved these pics from somebody's post (don't remember where I got them). I ran a wire pretty close to where these pics show.

I went down the firewall near brake reservoir, and then up through the E Brake cable boot and up through the sill. Very simple to do.
Here's a video. Go to approx 5 min mark:

Go through the cowl like mentioned. Super easy to run the wires through. That's where I ran my nitrous line through. Super easy access and you don't have to twist yourself around to get the line through

I ended up going through the cowl underneath the windshield wipers. There was a drain grommet that had room for my 2 4awg power cables. Going to mount the fuse blocks on the factory fuse holder cover next to the battery

I didn’t get a picture going into the grommet but I followed glocks picture where he went in from the rear top and sealed with waterproof silicone.

I recommend a windshield wiper removal tool to help pull off the blades and something to electrical “fishing” device to help pull the wire through.
